Hi Nay, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
That’s a very good question. I wouldn’t necessarily say it was fear, but I’ve finally decided to start recording music about two years ago. In that time, I’ve released a few singles to get a feeler out while simultaneously working on two albums. It’s been haunting me not to [pursue it], So I had to get to it!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! What’s good Miami?! Its “The most enviest one…” Nay Vino. Thanks for having me. Its truly an honor for me to have Voyage Mia to come along this journey with me. I would consider myself as a dynamic rapper. I’m originally from Brooklyn, so my musical journey bridges the gritty essence of New York with the vibrant flair of Miami. Having spent formative years in both cities, my sound is a nice blend of punchy rap lyrics intertwined with smooth jazzy notes, hints of R&B and diverse genres reflective of my unique experiences that I’ve adapted to while living here.
My music delves deep into relatable life narratives—capturing the trials, tribulations, some personal struggles, and the colorful, flamboyant Miami lifestyle that I’ve embraced for well over a decade now. Since officially stepping into the music scene a few years ago, I have released a 2 singles all while simultaneously crafting two albums, channeling my passion and authenticity into every track.
While I’m fine-tuning my debut LP, I am still thoughtfully considering which record to release next. I want to ensure that it embodies the essence of my journey and musical evolution. Expect music that either resonates, uplifts or tells a story.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My sister for sure! She’s my biggest fan and supporter. She really loves my music and its authenticity. My homeboy Karolina Blue too! When I first told him that I was retiring from rap around the time of the birth of my daughter, he was sick!!! Lol
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
Through music. The best form of self expression I feel is writing. I’ve always jotted down what I was emotionally drawn to or experiencing at the moment. However, after compiling my thoughts, voice memos, notes, notebooks…I realized that none of them had ever been recorded in an actual studio. It wasn’t until summer ’22 that I had an epiphany and finally woke up! Like, “Mu**** ****** why don’t I just get in the booth”?!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies in the industry I would say is just the financial aspect. However, in terms of just scrutiny. Most misconceptions actually come from non-consumers. Individuals who genuinely don’t listen to rap would hear something negative in a song and deemed characteristics about them or their actions to true and completely assassinate an artist’s character. There’s no other genre or any other artistry held to as high of a standard and microscope than Hip-Hop music.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I would deeply regret not releasing music and sharing this gift I have with everyone or never collaborating with some of my favorite artists who have inspired me. I’ve grown up listening to Hov, The LOX, Esco, Beans, N.O., Rosé and Ace Hood just to name a few. They really specialize in capturing a mood and telling a story how they saw it through their eyes. So vicariously, its a must that I finish these first two projects of mine!
