Story & Lesson Highlights with Daniel Chaberman of Hallandale

Daniel Chaberman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Daniel, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Last night at home, watching with my wife how our twin daughters throw a soccer ball to our three-year-old son as he kicked it with all his strength. In that simple moment, seeing him discover how much he loves the game and might actually be good at it, while his sisters cheered him on and played with him, I felt pure joy. It was one of those rare times when everything felt perfectly in place.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Daniel Chaberman, and I’m a real estate developer and broker based in South Florida. I lead the leasing and sales efforts at Atlantic Village in Hallandale Beach, a mixed-use destination that brings together restaurants, offices, entertainment, and lifestyle experiences all in one place.

What makes my work unique is that I don’t just focus on the buildings themselves, I focus on creating experiences. I believe the true value of a project comes from how it makes people feel when they walk through it, the type of community it builds, and the opportunities it creates for both tenants and visitors.

On a personal level, I’ve always believed in doing business with honesty, common sense, and kindness, three qualities that, unfortunately, aren’t as common today as they should be. I try to approach every project and relationship with a genuine intention to do what’s best for everyone involved. That mindset has helped me build long-term relationships based on trust, respect, and shared success.

Over the last decade, I’ve been part of the transformation of Hallandale Beach into one of South Florida’s fastest-growing areas, and I’m now involved in several new projects, both in real estate and in other industries, that all share one common goal: to create spaces and experiences that leave a lasting impact.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
October 7, 2023, completely changed how I see the world. That day made me realize that, unfortunately, evil does exist, and that many people either choose to ignore it or simply don’t understand it.

Witnessing the horrific terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas in Israel, the brutality, the inhumanity, and the pride with which they shared those acts for the world to see, was deeply disturbing. But what truly shocked me even more was the reaction that followed. Seeing people, especially here in the United States and even in some of the most respected universities in the world, openly supporting or justifying those terrorists was devastating.

It made me realize that we live in a world filled with ignorance, hidden agendas, and moral confusion. Too many people react based on narratives instead of truth, and that has dangerous consequences.

That day reminded me how important it is to stay grounded in values, in empathy, honesty, and courage to call things by their name. It reinforced my belief that we must stand firmly for what’s right, even when it’s uncomfortable, and teach our children to do the same.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be to enjoy life fully, to take the time to learn, to grow, and to set your priorities straight from the very beginning. Understand what truly matters: your family, your health, your happiness, and the peace of mind of the people you love.

I’d remind myself to always look at the bright side, even during difficult times. Every challenge comes with a lesson, and those moments, as tough as they may feel, teach you how to appreciate the little things in life that are actually not so little.

And above all, to always be kind, to be respectful, and to help and support others whenever possible. Because at the end of the day, that’s what gives real meaning to life.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think one of the biggest lies in the real estate industry is pretending that it’s always about “win-win”, when in reality, too often it’s driven by greed. Many people care only about their own gain and not about the counterpart, as long as they walk away making more money.

Unfortunately, there are people in this business, and in the world in general, who act without ethics or integrity. Deals get done without real transparency or consideration for what’s fair. And I think that’s one of the main problems: success shouldn’t come at the expense of doing what’s right.

For me, the best deals are the ones where everyone involved benefits, where honesty and respect guide the process, not greed or ego.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, the real question for me wouldn’t be what I would build, but how I would build it and for whom. I would build it with hard work, honesty, and purpose, something that brings value to others and creates a positive experience for the community.

Whatever I create, I want it to reflect integrity and meaning. More than anything, I’d want my children to look at it one day and feel proud, not just of what I built, but of how I built it. Because at the end of the day, legacy isn’t about buildings or projects, it’s about the values and example you leave behind.
