Story & Lesson Highlights with Betsy Vedder of Port St. Lucie

Betsy Vedder shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Betsy, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Honestly, I’m most proud of building two things that don’t always get noticed: my family and my business. As a homeschooling mom of four, so much of what I do every day is behind the scenes, showing up consistently, creating routines and stability, pouring into my kids. It’s not glamorous, but it’s the heart of everything for me.

The same goes for my work as a Holistic Nutritionist. Over the last 10 years, I’ve built something that’s not just about meal plans or supplements, it’s about helping moms reclaim their energy, balance their hormones, and feel like themselves again. Most people don’t see the late nights, the ongoing research, or the quiet support that goes into helping someone finally feel better.

So even though the outside world doesn’t always see it, I’m really proud of the foundation I’ve been building, at home with my kids and through the transformations I get to witness in my clients’ lives. Those unseen wins are what keep me going.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Betsy Vedder, a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and the founder of The Gut Coach. I help women, especially moms 30 and up, reclaim their health so they can show up fully for themselves, their families, and their communities. I’ve been in the wellness space for over a decade, and I see my role as part guide, part health detective, I walk alongside my clients through the real life challenges they face, everything from food intolerances to unexplained symptoms to hospital visits, digging beneath the surface to uncover what’s really going on and guiding them back to wellness.

My own journey into holistic health started in 2014, when I went through a major health crisis. I faced debilitating gut issues that drained my energy, stole time away from my little girls, and left me struggling to live the life I wanted. Step by step, I took my health back into my own hands and rebuilt. That process ignited my passion for helping other women avoid the same kind of silent battles with their health.

Being a mom of four has shaped everything about my approach. I know firsthand how hard it is to balance family, work, and personal health and how often moms put themselves last. I believe when we heal the mother, we strengthen the whole family and community. That’s why my work focuses on the whole picture: gut health, hormones, metabolism, stress, sleep, and nutrition. It’s faith-based, rooted in science, and built on practical strategies women can actually use in their daily lives. I’m constantly researching the latest science, but I’m also passionate about making it realistic, like figuring out how to get enough protein on a busy day or how to actually get more sleep when life feels nonstop.

Right now, I’m especially excited about creating Firm Foundations Academy, a digital course that walks women step by step through my healing framework. My goal is to give women the tools and confidence they need to restore their energy, rebuild their health, and live from a place of strength and wholeness.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I followed curiosity. I was drawn to science, to music, to understanding how things work and why people do what they do. I moved through life observing, questioning, and learning, not trying to fit a mold, but following what felt true. That sense of wonder and the courage to pursue it has always defined me more than any expectation ever could.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has a way of revealing truths that success never can. When my oldest daughter was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and spent ten days in the PICU, watching her suffer was one of the most profound and humbling experiences of my life. It’s a type of pain that strips away control, strips away pretense, and exposes the heart in ways comfort never does.

Through that suffering, I’ve learned patience, resilience, and reliance on God in a way that achievement or success never taught me. Suffering produces empathy, deepens faith, and reshapes priorities. It teaches us to value presence over perfection, love over convenience, and trust over certainty. In those moments, I’ve seen that pain isn’t meaningless, it refines us, illuminates what truly matters, and opens doors for growth, connection, and compassion that success alone could never create.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
Some truths are so foundational that they rarely need words. I live by the belief that God’s design is intentional, and that there is purpose in every life. I believe we’re here for a reason, each of us uniquely formed. That the body has the ability to heal itself, given the right support. That motherhood is a calling, and children are a blessing. These truths quietly guide how I live, love, and work, shaping my decisions and my perspective even when I don’t speak them aloud.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who lived with resilience, intention, and courage, someone who pressed on even when life was hard. I want them to remember that my faith guided my choices and actions, and that I loved deeply and intentionally. More than accomplishments or accolades, I hope the story they tell is about the way I showed up for others, the care I offered, and the hope and encouragement I tried to bring into their lives. Ultimately, I want my life to reflect that love and faith can carry us through even the hardest seasons.
