We recently had the chance to connect with Andrew Walsh and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrew, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What we’re most proud of isn’t always something you’ll find in a set of building plans or the final finishes on an interior remodel. It’s the foundation we’ve built behind the scenes—a foundation of family, trust, and shared primary purpose. It’s a culture.
At Action Construction Inc, we’re building more than homes or commercial spaces—we’re building a company where every person feels like family, and that’s something you can’t always see from the outside. It’s in the early morning check-ins, the way a team member jumps in without being asked, or the phone call just to check in and offer assistance. It’s in the stories shared over production meetings, the random raffles, and the unspoken understanding that we’ve got each other’s backs—no matter what.
This family atmosphere isn’t something we had to force—it grew naturally from who we are. As a second-generation business, our roots run deep, and we carry that same sense of responsibility and care into every relationship, whether with coworkers, clients, or the communities we serve. Our founder was the hardest working and honest any of us have ever known, and everyone here is like-minded.
Respect, loyalty, and pride flow through everything we do. There’s a genuine sense of belonging and personal investment in each project. It’s not “my job” or “your job”. Teamwork.
You won’t find our core values painted on a wall—they show up in how we treat each other:
At the end of the day, we’re proud of the buildings we complete—but we’re even more proud of the culture we’ve built, the lives we’ve touched, and the legacy we continue to honor. That’s the kind of work that never shows up on a final invoice but leaves a lasting mark on every project—and every person involved.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mother always saw me clearly very long before I could see myself.
She saw my potential in moments when I was in severe fear, financial distress, and pain. She recognized strength in me when all I could feel was fear or worry. She told me she noticed the way I paid attention to detail and to people. Growing up she always told me she sees how much I care about people and attention to detail.
Even in times when I felt lost or unsure of who I was becoming, she never wavered. She held up a vision of me that was rooted not in what I had already done, but in who she knew I was at my core. It wasn’t about achievements, but it was about character. She always told me that she saw a leader and one who would carry on a legacy and do great things.
And it wasn’t just what she said, but it was how she treated me. With belief. With expectations. My mom had belief in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
I realize I’m only becoming the person she saw in me all along.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
For most of my life, I believed that to be tough and to be a man meant I had to do everything on my own. I thought needing help was a weakness. I carried a tremendous amount of pride and I never asked for help, not in business, not in my personal life, not even when things were clearly falling apart.
That mindset didn’t just hurt me—it cost me everything.
Eventually, I hit a place where the consequences of that belief were undeniable. I wasn’t just failing in business. I was failing in every aspect of my life. I was unemployed, homeless, and broken in every way.
I had to face myself honestly. I changed my mind in that dark place. I stopped pretending I had it all together and I asked for help for the first time in my life. And that one decision transformed everything.
Since then, my entire life has changed. My actions changed. My mindset changed. I always worked very hard, but I needed help. And in return I get to help others.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
If you asked my closest friends what really matters to me, they’d tell you it’s family, respect, and showing up with everything I’ve got.
They’d tell you there is nothing I get more excited about then when I’m with my five kids—my four boys and my daughter. Whether we’re on the boat, cruising the golf cart through the neighborhood, or just laughing in the living room, that’s where I’m the happiest. And they’d tell you I’m crazy about my beautiful wife and intentional about making sure our kids grow up knowing that their dad loves their mom deeply.
They’d talk about how close I am with my brother Danny, my brother German, and my sisters Jeannie and Kellie. They’d tell you I don’t miss a chance to honor and remember my parents, because everything I am was built on what they taught me.
And they’d definitely say I work like nobody else. I’m up before the sun, grinding late if that’s what it takes. I don’t complain. I just put my boots on and take action.
At the core, they’d tell you I’m a man who puts faith, family, loyalty, and hard work above everything. And they’d be right.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. I could and I do give everything my best without needing praise.
I don’t take action to be noticed. I don’t show up early, stay late, or carry the weight I do because I’m chasing recognition. I do it for my kids. I do it for my wife. I do it to make sure they’re safe, supported, and know that their husband and father shows up with everything he’s got every single day.
I also do it to honor what my father started. He laid the foundation, and now it’s my job to build on it—not for applause, but because it’s in my blood. This isn’t about credit. It’s about responsibility.
At this point in my life, I wouldn’t waste time doing anything halfway. If I’m in, I’m all in. That’s how I work. That’s how I live. I give my best because it’s who I am,
The reward isn’t the praise—it’s knowing I kept my word, took care of my people, and gave my family something real and lasting.
