Story & Lesson Highlights with Alexander Tavarez of Miami

We recently had the chance to connect with Alexander Tavarez and have shared our conversation below.

Alexander, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I would have to say that it’s the memories that I’m making on the set of my current film, “Fractured Mind”, with old and new friends, making a story come to life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Alex Tavarez and I’m the founder of Engrailment Films, a production company where I direct, write, and produce original stories. What makes Engrailment Films special is our focus on creating projects that feel both bold and deeply personal — films that aren’t afraid to explore complex emotions while still connecting with audiences on a human level. My journey as a filmmaker has always been about living life to the fullest through storytelling, which is why our tagline is, “Let’s live life to the fullest the only way we know how.”

Right now, I’m continuing to grow Engrailment Films through new projects that I’m developing for both festivals and streaming platforms. Each film is not just about entertainment, but also about sparking conversation and leaving people with something they can carry with them long after the credits roll.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
It’s actually a funny little anecdote. It’s actually from a show. “How I Met Your Mother”. Ted Mosby, who is the main character of the show. “It was at times a long, difficult road. But I’m glad it was long and difficult, because if I hadn’t gone through hell to get there, the lesson might not have been as clear.”

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, back in 2023 there was a film that I was working on, that will remain unnamed, that didn’t see the finish line. And because of the that, I thought I was at fault, but in the end, I realized I wasn’t. I almost gave up filmmaking.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I don’t like to hide who I am. That’s not the real way to make friends. Let people see your true colors, and if they don’t deem you worthy of their time, so be it, move on.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, my film, “Homicidium Cruentum” won a couple of awards and many nominations, but I realized I wasn’t satisfied in my work and needed to work harder to get the recognition of others.
