We recently had the chance to connect with Shalisa West and have shared our conversation below.
Shalisa, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning from my own experiences, the unique circumstances that shape my journey. Each challenge I face teaches me resilience and adaptability. I navigate the complexities of life by reflecting on my choices and the lessons they bring. In my business endeavors, I’m discovering the importance of perseverance and strategic thinking. Love, too, offers invaluable lessons, reminding me of the beauty in vulnerability and connection. Ultimately, I’m growing through a blend of self-discovery and the insights gained from my everyday interactions.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Shalisa West is an androgynous non-binary creative and doesnt let clothes define them. Born and raised in Queens NYC on Halloween, and moved to Miami 10years ago for the beach life. Known as the model with the cool hair, they love playing basketball, capturing self portraits, getting tattoos, and spending time with love ones.
As a small business owner of Styles By DaVonne, I pour my heart into every piece I create, connecting deeply with fashion through the artistry of clothes and sneakers. What sets me apart is my unique perspective, blending classic styles with modern flair, always aiming to inspire others to embrace their individuality. I believe that every outfit tells a story, and I’m dedicated to helping my clients find their own narratives through the pieces I curate. My journey is filled with challenges and triumphs, making it a relatable path for anyone navigating their own aspirations. Follow along as I share not just my creations but the heart and hustle behind Styles By DaVonne.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mother
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain when I realized that it could be transformed into a source of strength rather than a burden. It was a gradual awakening, sparked by moments of reflection and vulnerability. I began to understand that my struggles were not weaknesses, but rather experiences that shaped me into who I am today. Embracing my pain allowed me to connect more authentically with others, fostering deeper relationships and understanding. By sharing my journey, I found empowerment in my story, turning past hardships into motivation for growth and resilience. This shift not only changed my perspective but also ignited a passion within me to inspire others to embrace their own battles and transform them into power.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Loyalty.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Living in fear
