Rising Stars: Meet Viviana Franco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Viviana Franco.

Hi Viviana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m a 26 year old Miami-based music photographer, content creator and creative director originally from Houston, TX, and I work at a local female-empowered creative agency.

Growing up, I always had an interest in my mom’s cameras, but it wasn’t until 2016 after meeting the founder of SoundBite Magazine that my career in photography actually began. I bought my first camera hours before shooting my first show!

At the time, I went as the editor’s plus one and took advantage of the chance to take pictures despite not knowing anything about concert photography. As an avid concertgoer, joining the media team was the game changer and the beginning of the journey into working with music. I spent countless hours watching YouTube tutorials on using my new camera and learning about editing softwares.

During that same period, I started working for Soundslinger and worked on the marketing team for Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival. It was both of those experiences that helped me define my trajectory. Knowing where my vision was headed, I realized music photography and marketing was where I really wanted to invest my time.

The goal is to continue branching out with artists. I love being the driving force behind a project intended for album covers, BTS footage and especially capturing live performances. I’m a strong supporter of South Florida’s local arts community. In my free time, you can usually find me at a show, supporting my friends at their own events, or chasing the next project.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Certainly not smooth, but I wouldn’t say that the journey thus far has been incredibly difficult either.

I always try to go outside of my comfort zone by going to events and shows by myself which is where I’ve met some incredible individuals through my networking efforts. I think some of my biggest struggles included finding the confidence to take on a style or project I hadn’t done before, like shooting a wedding for the first time.

It’s still something I struggle with from time to time, and there’s always room for growth. I worked hard to figure out where my passions lay and from that point on, I’ve done everything in my power to continue learning and improving.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today, I work at Mkali Creative as the Creative Account Manager. During these two years with the company, I’ve been encouraged and granted opportunities to expand my horizons in digital marketing, strategy and photography through many different styles. I’ve been able to lead projects for clients that involve everything from portrait and fashion to product and fitness photography, which has been the best learning experience yet! I’ve specialized and connected with the fitness world the most. I love the challenge of photographing things in motion, especially group workouts.

In addition to Mkali, I take on freelance projects with photoshoots, building websites, managing socials, and creating content for small businesses.

Concert photography has always been something that I’ve felt connected to, especially when I’m able to work one-on-one with an artist. Overall, my work is typically very vibrant and sometimes edgy. When it comes to portraits, my best work has come from working with individuals that aren’t models but have an eye-catching style.

There’s something empowering about giving someone confidence through a new lens (literally), and I’m really proud of the way my creative direction has developed over the last few years. I especially love working with other women to remind them of how beautiful and badass they are.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Passion and connection. I think passion fuels my drive and creativity while connection allows me to relate to others.

Passion is a big part of what motivates me to continuously find inspiration and creative outlets. Connection is the driving force behind every interaction, especially amongst other creatives, and it’s essential to establish a connection when networking with others.

Every single job, project, and opportunity has come from making a connection with a stranger and running with an idea.
