Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Arthur.
Hi Vivian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started with photography when I realized that I was spending most of my free time watching tutorials on how to retouch. I figured I’d give taking my own photos a try so that I could create the images I wanted to retouch. Long story short, I bought a camera and started taking photos in auto mode (since I didn’t know how to otherwise) while having a lot of fun editing them. That’s when I met Manuel Hernandez, a photographer that I followed and admired, and we became the best of friends. He had my same camera so he taught me how to use it and from then on I developed my own style and I got more into the photography process itself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the beginning, you want to be able to create the images that are in your mind, but you don’t really have the expertise. It is important to not feel discouraged by the learning process. You have to be patient, and to grow from every opportunity that you have.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer who works a lot in the beach, that is what I’m mostly known for. But I also love fashion, and finding a way to merge both worlds is something that I find very exciting and want to do more of.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
On a personal level, my family and loved ones of course.
On a professional level, I want my subjects to feel seen, to bring out the best of them, and to be able to capture a moment the way I see it in my mind.
