Rising Stars: Meet Tessa Johnston of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Johnston.

Tessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am originally from Windsor, a small town in Canada, but I developed an early drive to push boundaries and pursue opportunities on a global scale. My career led me to Dubai, where I served as a house model for luxury fashion brands and expanded my on-camera experience across high-end commercial and fashion work. I have acted in Cartier’s Into the Wild Live Exhibition, modeled for luxury resorts in the Dominican Republic, appeared in social media campaigns for Burger King, and was cast as the lead CrossFit actress in G.O.A.T Fuel’s commercial campaign.
Now I am based in Miami, Florida, where I work across modeling, acting, and content creation, specializing in commercials, beauty, fitness, and lifestyle. I have roles in the upcoming series M.I.A., the feature film Spanish Fly, and Kevin Hart’s upcoming movie 72 Hours. I continues to book commercial and modeling projects consistently, bringing a strong on-camera presence, professionalism, and positive energy to every production.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I left home at 23 for something bigger and it has never been easy to pick up and restart from zero, but I was always determined to make it work and make something better. I moved to Dubai and was able to push to find alot of success in my modelling work. I modelled for Emirates Airlines even representing at the World Cup in Brisbane. But after 3 years I decided to pick up and move to Miami with no connections and knowing no one so I restarted from scratch again. I really had to push and focus on making connections, meeting brands and people, and getting myself out there so I could become known and booked again.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What really sets me apart is my work ethic and mindset. When I have a goal, I don’t give up on it — I show up early, stay late, and do whatever I can to make it happen. I don’t complain, and I try to keep things positive, which I think goes a long way in this industry, especially in Miami.
I genuinely love what I do, and I think people can feel that when they work with me. I’m easy to work with, I’m always happy to help the production team however I can, and I really enjoy being part of a collaborative set. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built along the way and the fact that people enjoy working with me because I bring a good attitude and real passion to every project.

How do you think about luck?
I honestly don’t think luck has played a big role in my life or my work. I believe what’s made the biggest difference is hard work. People often say they’re lucky or unlucky, but I think it really comes down to who you are, how hard you work, and whether you’re willing to do what it takes to get where you want to be. The good things that come my way feel like the result of the effort I’ve put in, and when something doesn’t work out, I don’t see it as bad luck—just something that wasn’t meant for me or the right fit at the time.
