Rising Stars: Meet Stephanie Cortina of King Fox Brewery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Cortina.

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
King Fox Brewery is a family-owned business located in the heart of West Hialeah, Florida. Owners consist of myself, Stephanie Cortina, my husband, Luis Diaz, and his mother, Gina Diaz.

The name King Fox came for Luis’s grandfather, Gina’s father who had a wallpaper company in his name Regis Renaud which translates to King Fox. This was to honor our grandfather so he was a veteran.

We specialize in making beers that both general public and craft beer enthusiasts will enjoy.

We have been in planning since 2015 and opened our doors for production in December of 2020.

Most recently, we opened our retail area to include a Crowler Fill Station for online ordering.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of our goals is to obtain a canning line to improve the efficiency of canning. Additionally, we would like to expand our facility by adding a beer garden and small taproom for our patrons to socialize and enjoy our beer.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
King Hef – German-style Hefeweizen. Brewed with a traditional Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast strain, this particularly cloudy beer exhibits notes of banana and cloves. Appearance is straw colored. Medium body with a slight tart finish. Medium high carbonation. Drinkability 100%

La Guapa – Our most popular beer, La Guapa is a light and tart berliner weisse style ale brewed with over 500lbs of passion fruit and guava. Huge guava aromas with a punch of passion fruit and guava flavor. This beer is tart, juicy, and delicious! Our house berliner weisse yeast strain adds just the right amount of pucker to round off this complex beer.

NBD – Collab with Lincoln’s Beard Brewing! Throwback to an early recipe brewed with friends, this big IPA has super juicy tropical fruit notes. Brewed with a huge whirlpool of Citra, Mosaic, and Nelson Sauvin hops. It was then dry hopped not once but twice, with 3lbs per barrel of hops! A well-known North East brewery’s yeast rounds out the profile.

Black the Razz Up – Fruited Sour Ale with Raspberry and Blackberry. 300LBS of fresh Raspberry and Blackberries went into this beer. Tart and refreshing.
