Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Collier.
Sean, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
“This is what you need to do the rest of your life.” Words told to me by my father right after viewing me projected on the wall during my first audition. Being a man of the arts, he and my mother decided to see if I had what it takes to follow suit. My mother took me to just about every set during my early years in acting and has attended each premiere thus far. She, without a doubt, is my biggest supporter!
I’ve reached where I am today by studying, learning from mistakes, applying what I’ve learned, staying persistent, and networking. My older brother, the prime physical trainer in South FL, has burned into my head, “Your network is your net worth.” This, among many other words of wisdom about life and business, has brought my mental/physical stability to an ongoing increase in growth.
Though I have so far to go, I am comfortable with who I am, the people around me, and the path laid before us.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe everything happens for a reason, a divine purpose for your life. Sometimes we will never know the reason but I am thankful for whatever has happened because it made me who I am today. I’ve had to skateboard up to North Beach to make a set, humbling me and creating a sense of urgency to respect time. I’ve had friends quit mid-production, again humbling me and teaching me to establish more trustworthy individuals to share my dreams with. I’ve been lied to about the legitimacy of production teams, teaching me to look into who you are going to work with BEFORE you agree to the contract.
Now on the talent portion, I am lucky enough to have someone I call my brother, Mr. Lyon Beckwith, who is well-versed in the industry, helping and guiding me to my potential. I will always attend his classes, as this is a way for him to explore another part of this business while being able to earn from giving his knowledge. I’ve struggled with creating/maintaining characters, finding my specific look to lead with, and being able to execute when called in. All of these are attainable through study, practice, and asking for help. We are stronger together than we are apart!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am proud to say I am an actor. A dream of mine since I was given those game-changing words from pops. Recently, I’ve won best supporting actor in the DMV and attended a premiere at the Magic Johnson AMC Theatre where I played a dark, deceiving lead character in this film.
There are also talents I bring with me when I am on set. I’ve learned to sit back and watch while on major productions, then bring what I’ve learned to a smaller budget and independent productions including lighting, staging, choreographing, shooting, and coaching. I’ve grown as an athlete, playing soccer and then football through my childhood into college. After college, I followed my brother’s love for caring for the body more holistically. We then went into martial arts, studying the calming Qi-Gong/Tai Chi to the precise strategic movements of Wing Chun. I’ve become known as “Sean Wick” given my natural ability for combat, including weapons handling.
One thing I believe everyone should be proud of is their discipline. This comes from being real with yourself, asking yourself if you have what it takes to get there. I strive to be better than who I was the day before thus propelling me into a life I am extremely proud of. I have a stable career with PLUSH Vodka, I’m living my preteen dream of working as an actor and I’ve been blessed to have an incredible woman I get to “do life” with, alongside some great friends who want the best for one another.
We are still working, on 8 films in post-production this year with pre and in-production status for 4 more films/2 series. All of you readers will be able to see my acting on BET, Tubi, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. Due to contracts and NDAs, I cannot speak of which productions until after they’ve been released.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
You will always have more perceptions of yourself than you will ever hear, so I know there are different views and opinions of who I was and even who I am now! From what I know, I was mostly welcomed as a kid. Often humorous like every child, trying to find my way.
Growing up in a neighborhood with people my age gave me immediate friends to explore sports, which is a huge reason for my athletic ability. There were very few things that didn’t interest me because, as long as I was home for dinner, I was given the opportunity to explore. Life to me is all about taking what you’ve learned and applying it to what you’re doing today!
