Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Laroche
Hi Ryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ryan Laroche, originally from Venezuela, and my journey in the beauty industry began in 2012 when I was 19. I had the privilege of learning from renowned Caracas makeup artist Nerio Camargo, who became my mentor. In 2014, I moved to the United States, turning 21 that year, to open one of his stores in Miami, and I’ve been part of the beauty scene here ever since. By 2016, we established a salon and spa in Coral Gables, which thrived until 2018 when I faced a personal crisis. Struggling with addiction, I lost everything and experienced homelessness before finding my way to rehab. After 21 days in rehab, I had to rebuild my life from scratch without any local support. Despite the challenges, I focused on recovery and joined a lash studio, in Coral Gables in 2019. Now, in 2024, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be opening my own salon suite in downtown Miami, offering a wide range of beauty services.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been easy. Upon moving to this country, I encountered significant challenges. Initially, the language barrier was daunting as I wasn’t fluent in English. However, with the help of Netflix and music, I managed to learn a great deal. I also moved here alone, without friends, which was isolating at first, but it didn’t deter me. Between 2017 and 2019, I struggled with addiction, which consumed everything. It wasn’t until I completed rehab that I began to reclaim my life. Emerging from rehab presented the greatest challenge—I had no money, lost my car, but fortunately, I had paid my rent beforehand, ensuring I had a place to stay. Despite having nothing, I persevered and began the difficult search for a new job.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Upon arriving in this country, I dedicated nine months to obtaining my esthetician license. Specializing in eyelashes and permanent makeup, I offer a range of services including eyelash extensions, lifts, tints, eyebrow shaping, tinting, and permanent makeup techniques like microblading and powder brows. My reputation is built on personalized service and a deep connection with my clients. Understanding and meeting their needs is a priority, and I’m proud to say I’ve received no complaints since entering the beauty industry. Overcoming personal challenges and embracing opportunities for growth here have shaped me into the open-minded professional I am today. What truly sets me apart is my ability to connect with clients and fulfill their beauty aspirations.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite book, *The Four Agreements*, played a pivotal role in my recovery, helping me navigate personal challenges and improve relationships. As for apps, Spotify and book apps top my list. I enjoy daily podcasts on Spotify, and while working with clients, I listen to self-improvement books through my AirPods. My go-to podcasts are *The Daily* & *Up First* from NPR (new york times). These provide the essential news updates I need, as I prefer them to traditional news sources.
