Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Oliva.
Hi Roberto, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since I was very young, I discovered in drawing, painting, and colors a way to express joy and emotion. I have always believed that art is a gift from God meant to be shared with others, and ever since I could hold a pencil or a paintbrush, creativity became my way of connecting with the world.
Over time, my artistic journey evolved into experimenting with different techniques and materials, including recycled art made from beverage cans transformed into mosaic-style compositions using epoxy resin. I have also created abstract paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media pieces inspired by nature — especially flowers, butterflies, horses, bulls and the landscapes I have had the opportunity to experience through my travels.
My connection with nature also comes from my roots in Peru, where the ocean and surfing became a very important part of my life for more than 20 years. Sunsets, the sea, and natural colors have always inspired me and taught me to see art as something healing, emotional, and full of life.
Today, living in Miami, I continue to find inspiration in a city surrounded by tropical beauty, flowers, exotic birds, and vibrant energy. I am also inspired by motorcycle culture and the cruising rides I share with my Harley-Davidson group, blending freedom, adventure, and artistic expression. One of my current projects is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Peruvian “Torito de Pucará,” transforming it into a more modern and personal artistic vision that reflects my evolution as an artist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing my artistic passion with everyday responsibilities and professional life. There were moments of doubt, limited time, and learning through trial and error, especially while experimenting with recycled materials, resin, and mixed media techniques.
However, those challenges helped shape my artistic identity. Nature, travel, the ocean, motorcycles, and my Peruvian roots have continued to inspire me and keep me motivated to create meaningful and uplifting art
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work focuses on mixed media art, sculpture, and botanical-inspired creations that combine nature, emotion, and texture. I enjoy working with resin, recycled aluminum, mosaics, wood, metallic finishes, and natural elements like orchids and flowers to create colorful and expressive pieces inspired by tropical beauty, culture, and movement.
I am especially proud of being able to transform personal experiences, nature, and my Peruvian roots into meaningful art that connects with people emotionally. What sets my work apart is the fusion of luxury, recycled materials, cultural inspiration, and contemporary design, always with the goal of creating beauty, joy, and authenticity
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I believe mentors and curators are always discovering artists through social media. In my case, platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok have helped me share my work and connect with people who appreciate art.
Over the past 20 years in the United States, I’ve been fortunate to build relationships with collectors and clients who have supported my artistic journey. I’ve also participated in Miami art events such as the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and cultural exhibitions connected to Peruvian heritage, including collaborations related to the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
I have also participated in charity events by donating artwork to organizations such as Art from the Heart, which has been a very meaningful experience for me. Beyond selling art, I truly value being able to support causes and connect with people through creativity and community
