Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Luciano.
Hi Patricia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a Broadcaster, Communicator, Content Creator, Creator of a Talent Management App – Kastaco, Author, and Personal Communication & Oratory Mentor.
When I started my career, I was told that I had no talent. It was challenging for me to think that I didn’t have the image, talent, or qualities to be in front of a camera or microphone. So, I decided to start from the bottom and behind the scenes at first. This allowed me to get to know the market and connect with producers and broadcasters in various settings.
At the same time, I began preparing myself and connecting more and more with myself, my voice, and my qualities to become the type of communicator I aspired to be. I became a radio broadcaster while working as a producer for another station. Later, I became the director of Exa 96.9FM in the Dominican Republic. I have two master’s degrees, one in corporate communication and another in advertising and social media.
Through my experience with the fear of not being enough, I learned that talents need platforms to compete in arenas where anonymity provides them with real opportunities. That’s why we launched Kastaco, a platform that allows talents to showcase their skills, initially focusing on voice. Currently, we are in expansion mode to enter other advertising sectors.
I am currently the host of the podcast “The Club Guide,” one of the tools of the Dominican Sisters’ platform, created by Kat Pesantes, Ilen Brens, and Paulette Noboa. In this role, I am responsible for showcasing the contributions of women in the world from a perspective of excellence and hard work.
With Kastaco, we participated as the only Latin project in the Tie Global Pitch Competition in Silicon Valley in 2021, and in February of this year, we won second place for Best Pitch at FAU in its first Spanish-language competition. I live in Miami with my partner, husband, producer, broadcaster, director, event producer, content creator, Edgar Cadena, and my son.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t been easy, but I don’t play the victim card. As I’ve mentioned on several occasions, I believe that a lack of self-confidence often led me to believe more in others than in myself, which weakened me. I had to work on myself first to believe in myself and inspire others to believe in me.
Along the way, I learned that opening doors may seem easy, but there’s always a price to pay. That’s why I understood that sometimes we have to create our windows of opportunity.
Being everything I mentioned earlier has been challenging because, in many cases, I was my own worst enemy. Even though I encountered people who didn’t want to support my growth, I also found many loving individuals who recognized my qualities and gave me the push I needed to grow. For that reason, and because of them, I am grateful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In the Dominican Republic, it’s common for communicators to explore various branches of communication. As a result, I’ve been able to delve into many interesting areas. I’m a professional broadcaster, and my voice has been a part of brands such as Coca-Cola, ScotiaBank, Visa, Samsung, Mercedes Benz, Carrefour, Claro, Grupo Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, and the Ministry of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, among others.
Additionally, with my first podcast, “Tras la voz,” I won several international awards, including the Best Podcast in the Dominican Republic in 2022 at the Latin Podcast Awards.
I worked as a TV producer, radio host, and radio producer for many years. In 2011, I became the Director of Exa 96.9 FM, where I stayed until 2021—a decade of witnessing the station’s birth and growth, along with the emergence of great talents and experiences.
During the pandemic, I created a support platform where people could receive free education through weekly masterclasses for 8 months, concluding with a 9.5-hour communication marathon (which is available on YouTube).
In 2018, I launched Kastaco, the first app of its kind focused on talent management. Initially, we concentrated on the voice aspect. Currently, we are working to expand its horizons both geographically and in terms of opportunities, enabling talents to access real opportunities and advance further in their careers.
I serve as a communication mentor, supporting professionals seeking to enhance their personal communication and oratory skills. Presently, I’m the host of the podcast for the Dominican Sisters: “The Club Guide,” where we provide visibility to women who work with excellence and dedication, helping them expand their projects, products, services, and impact in the community.
Also, I am EMCEE and voice for events. I’ve won the Lavat Award as Best Host for live and online events. I’ve been the host of the Latin Podcasts Awards for 3 years in a row. And very soon, I will be announcing my new project.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My first recommendation is that I choose anyone I seek advice from, they have achieved what I want to achieve in some aspect. So, it works for me not to seek opinions from everyone but only from those who have a vision of the path I’m facing.
Regarding networking, I’ve learned to use the colors of my brand wisely. I try to use the image as part of the strategy, having something that makes me stand out. Above all, I always make eye contact, repeat the person’s name three times during the first few minutes of the conversation, and actively pay attention to what they have to say. This elevates my authority, allows me to connect better, and makes me memorable.
