Rising Stars: Meet Patricia Calero of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Calero.

Hi Patricia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started creating art as a hobby, simply as a way to disconnect and express myself. I’m a very creative person, and making things with my hands makes me feel good — it’s a form of expression that allows me to connect and inspire others. I began working with origami, and over time, I’ve continued to experiment with new materials and techniques. Today, my focus is on creating kinetic pieces that play with color, movement, and visual impact.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never an easy road — and honestly, if it is easy, it doesn’t really push you to grow. For me, one of the biggest challenges has been getting the opportunity to work with galleries, because they don’t always look for the same things that I want to express through my art.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a human being, we all sometimes doubt our abilities or question what we’re capable of creating. But every time I see a finished piece and someone admires it or wants to own it, that fills me with pride. I’m also proud of everything I’ve achieved as someone who is self-taught my inspiration always comes from the colors I see in images or in the places I frequently visit. It means a lot to me because I didn’t go to university to study art professionally; it’s something that I learned on my own and something I carry deep within me. So when people connect with my work and enjoy what I do, there are truly no words to express how grateful I feel.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe one of the key elements behind my journey has been staying true to who I am and embracing what makes me different. Consistency and the desire to keep evolving have also been essential. Even though I often work with specific techniques like origami, I always stay open to learning from other artists observing their process and experimenting with new materials or ideas. This openness often sparks unexpected inspiration and allows me to expand my own creative language. For me, art is not just about aesthetics; it’s about movement, emotion, and the colors that surround us every day.
