Rising Stars: Meet Nestor Sandoval

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nestor Sandoval.

Nestor Sandoval

Hi Nestor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your back story.
I’m from Venezuela, and after 15 years as a former rugby player, I began to explore yoga and, from there practiced acro-yoga or partner acrobatic. Through acro, I came to the US for my first immersion in 2014, then began to teach in Caracas and other cities in my country. In 2015, I came to Miami for acrobatic immersion and stay in the US. Since then, I’ve been teaching workshops and private classes, and 4 years ago began to teach at Voodoo Studios where I keep teaching every Tuesday fundamentals of partner acrobatics.

After moving to the US, I decided to practice other disciplines and explore different ways of movement, practiced for 2-year movement based on Ido portal methods with the Republic of Movement, which opened my curiosity to experiment with pole dance which I’ve been practicing and teaching last 2 years.

I’ve completed 200 HR yoga certifications, personal trainer certifications, acro love teacher training, and power pole training.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t easy the transition, I’ve been working hard on flexibility and mobility considering my lack of them from years of strength training and rugby.

Last year, I’ve been dealing with some injuries in my lower back, but I consider that part of the path always your body needs to adapt and learn new things. When I moved to the US, language was a challenge, but teaching helped a lot.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
During the day during office hours, I work as a VDC project manager for an electrical contractor.

After that, I teach partner acro at Voodoo Studios, classes are based on creating a solid foundation to develop a solid practice. Apart from that I teach private classes in pole dance and partner acro. These classes are oriented to learning specific movements.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My grandma taught me yoga and meditation, that was for sure a great influence on my actual path.
