Today, we’d like to introduce you to Marlo Darrington.
Marlo, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2022, I decided to venture into the business with a POPUP shop. I’ve always had a knack for interior design, fashion, antiques, international culture, Balinese furnishings, event curation, and boho-style artistic expressions.
I started this journey as a partnership pilot project with my family, Skyy Hadley, Owner of As U Wish Nail Spa in Hoboken, New Jersey. Initially, I specialized in promoting and selling the “Boho Signature Dresses and Skirts.” Shortly thereafter, I decided to broaden my reach and incorporate a variety of boho styles with a unique twist.
Fast forward, my partner encouraged me to source locally and assisted me in identifying vendors and cultivating strategic partnerships in the South Florida market. A few POPUPS later, Da Bohemian Bazaar launched, and the rest is history.
Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, I worked in the architecture/engineering/construction industry for many years since graduating from college. After relocating to Florida, I briefly pursued a career in retail at Neiman Marcus – Bal Harbour. I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and I am confident that Da Bohemian Bazaar will appeal to artists, fashionistas, creatives, and influencers alike.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always opportunities and challenges. Entrepreneurship is a journey. Marketing, website development, inventory management, forecasting, strategic product placement, sourcing, and a host of other not-so-glamorous activities.
However, I have a gift. I have a gift for problem-solving. I entered this venture knowing that challenges are inevitable and do not have an end date. I believe when you have a reasonable expectation, you will be equipped to handle and overcome any struggles that arise from the process.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a brand. I am a shop creator. I am a creative director. I source, procure, collaborate, and close. I specialize in creating spaces for beautiful people who are desirous of beautiful things.
I am most proud of convincing an owner of two boutique hotels to see my collection inside my condo. I took a risk. I approached her in the streets of Brickell with the intention of showing her my inventory. But there was a language barrier. She speaks Spanish, and I do not. Within 30 mins of the meeting, I was granted exclusive rights to sell Da Bohemian Bazaar’s hand-selected multi-brand collections at this hotel one block from my home.
My authenticity sets me apart. Miami is filled with very interesting people. I can navigate complex situations with moderate levels of distress. I am an honest person who believes in transparency. Most people don’t hone in on those characteristics. I value those qualities.
What are your plans for the future?
I am finalizing the financial components of DBB’s business plan. Next, I will be pitching the business model to independently owned boutique owners in Brickell.
I have a unique product and am an excellent service provider. I can provide a service to guests that adds value to hoteliers. I look forward to providing data-driven insights to hoteliers in hopes that they will agree with my conceptual approach toward product positioning.
