Rising Stars: Meet Lisfer Bolivar of Hialeah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisfer Bolivar.

Hi Lisfer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Lisfer, but everyone calls me Lis, and I’m the cake designer and founder of Sweet & Blossom, a bespoke wedding cake studio based in Miami.

I’ve always been a creative person — since I was a child, I loved arts and crafts like ceramic painting, foami, and jewelry making. But I didn’t know how to turn creativity into a career, so I studied International Trade in Venezuela, where I was born and raised.

At 26, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life — I moved alone to the United States, looking for new opportunities. I worked in administration and accounting in Venezuela, but quickly realized that the 9-to-5 office life wasn’t for me. So, I quit my job, sold my car, and came to the U.S. with just a suitcase full of dreams.

A few months later, I met my husband, and a year later, our daughter was born. On her first birthday in 2019, I decided to make and decorate her cake myself — with the help of YouTube, of course! That’s when my love for cake decorating truly began.

During the pandemic, when our family business had to close, I started a cake supply business with my sister in Venezuela. I used to import baking tools and materials from countries like China, Australia, and Canada to the U.S., where I received the products, took photos and videos for social media, and then shipped everything to Venezuela, where my sister handled the distribution.
Today, that business has grown into a physical store, an e-commerce site, and a community of over 50,000 followers.

In 2022, I decided to study Baking and Pastry Arts at Florida Education Institute in Coral Gables, and later trained with professionals in advanced cake decorating techniques. I honestly can’t count how many courses I’ve taken, I’m just very passionate about learning and perfecting my craft.

That passion led me to create Sweet & Blossom, where I started designing and making celebration cakes that quickly gained attention for their beauty and detail. Over time, I’ve had the privilege of working with wonderful clients, many of whom have now become friends.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all — the road has definitely not been smooth, but it’s been full of growth.

When I first came to the United States, the language was one of my biggest challenges. I had to learn how to communicate and feel confident in English while trying to grow my business.

Also, Miami is very multicultural, and people have many different tastes and traditions when it comes to desserts. I had to learn what flavors people like here and how to adapt my recipes and designs to connect with them.

Another challenge was standing out in such a competitive industry. There are many amazing cake artists, so I worked hard to create my own style, something elegant, romantic, and full of details, that truly represents me.

It hasn’t been a smooth road, but every difficulty helped me grow and become better, not only as a cake designer but also as a person and entrepreneur.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
’m the cake designer and founder of Sweet & Blossom, a studio in Miami that creates custom wedding cakes and elegant dessert tables.

I specialize in romantic, elegant, and unique cakes designed especially for each client. One of the things that makes my work different is that I always want my cakes to be original and one of a kind.

I love bringing my clients’ ideas to life, I get inspired by their personalities, the event decoration, and even the bride’s or quinceañera’s dress. I combine all those details into one design that truly represents them.

To make the experience more special, I also create digital sketches so my clients can visualize their cake and approve every detail before the big day.

I’m very proud of how far Sweet & Blossom has come. I started baking from home, and now I have the opportunity to work with many couples, wedding planners, and venues across South Florida.

What really sets me apart is my artistic vision, attention to detail, and how much love I put into every creation, because for me, each cake is not just dessert, it’s a piece of art and part of someone’s story.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Yes, I actually have a mentor who has taught me almost everything about event cakes. I took one of her online courses and then continued specializing in this area for more than five months. Every time I have a question or doubt, she is always there to guide me and give me advice.

Having a mentor has made a big difference for me. My advice would be to find someone who has already walked the path you want to take, who has experience, but also shares your values and vision. That makes the learning process more meaningful and real.

When it comes to networking, I’ve attended many wedding events and expos as a vendor, where I’ve had the chance to connect with wedding planners, photographers, and florists. Those relationships have helped me grow and collaborate with other professionals in the industry.

I also never stop learning — I’ve taken many online and in-person courses to stay up to date with the latest cake trends, social media, and marketing strategies. I believe continuous learning and good relationships are the key to growing in this industry.
