Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellin Esquivel.
Kellin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Lima, Peru. My love for art started when I was six years old. I didn’t follow the career of Art but instead, I studied Communications. I moved to California a few years ago looking for a change in my life. In 2013 I adopted my chihuahua Lalita, I can say she rescued me. I went through depression and Lalita was there for me, forcing me to wake up every day, she made me see again how beautiful life is. And I started to paint again. In 2018 I decided to do something related to animals and art so I started SketchPup! I do fun custom pet portraits with my digital pen, and I have an online pet parents shop. The mission of my business is to give back to the rescue community donating a portion of the profits.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t a small road. Before I started my business, I attended workshops. From business plan, social media, marketing, etc. I learned how to create a website and how to paint digitally. The first year I didn’t make any money, but little by little people started to know my work. I attended art fairs and events. I painted for my friends and family and now my clients are from social media and farmer markets.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do fun custom pet portraits, from a classic/family portrait or your pet as a famous personality. I only use a digital pen and from a picture, I start to paint. My most famous portraits are Frida Kahlo, RBG and Rosie the Riveter. I would say what sets me apart from others is that a portion of the profits go to shelter animals. And that I raise awareness about adopting and fostering animals with my t-shirt designs.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
A way to support me is sharing my work on social media and spreading the word about me and my business to family and friends. Every time that a person buys a product from me, it is helping me to donate a percentage to animal rescues. I’m open to collaborate with any rescue or business that loves animals and would love to give back to the community.
