Rising Stars: Meet Karl Milan of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karl Milan.

Hi Karl, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Venezuela, moved to Miami in 2010 when I was 18yrs old.

I went to Miami Dade college for Music Business and started working in audio very early on.

I did clubs and corporate work for a few years until I had the opportunity to start touring with a Latin artist called Mariah Angelique which then opened up a lot of opportunities for me in the touring world.
I then went on to work as monitor engineer and production manager for Justin Quiles and started getting more gigs with other artists through that.

After almost 12 years I can now say I’ve worked some of the biggest stages in the world and with some of the biggest artists of the Latin world. From Cristian Castro, Ivan Cornejo and Farruko to opening a whole tour for Maroon 5 with Claire Rosinkranz.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t all been smooth but it’s definitely been long. I would say breaking into the touring world was the hardest part. Networking with colleagues and camps you don’t really have access to always requires a bit of ingenuity and once you get the opportunity you have to make sure you’re prepared.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an audio engineer. I specialize in FOH mixing.

I would say I’m know for being calm in an otherwise intense and hectic environments and always being able to come up with solutions rather than problems.

I’m extremely proud of being able to live and support my family from doing what I love.

I believe patience, kindness and musicality sets me apart.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was a bit of everything. I was sporty, a bit nerdy, played in a metal band and always surrounded by friends.

I loved playing the guitar and it was my focus up until graduating high school.

My band was me and my best friends. We got together at least once a week to rehearse and it was such an amazing time.
