Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennah Leach.
Hi Jennah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story really began long before I ever picked up a pen. My mother had a deep love for poetry, and some of my earliest memories are of sitting in her room with Bob Dylan and Cher playing in the background while she broke down the meaning inside every line. She taught me that words are more than language. They are living things that can heal, break, reveal, and transform. I grew up learning that a single line could open a door into someone’s heart. That understanding shaped me completely. My love for writing came naturally after that. It was the only way I knew how to process the world, and over time it became the only thing that truly felt like home. Every poem I write now still carries a piece of that childhood room, of my mother’s voice, and of the belief that the right words can change someone’s entire day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth path, but it has been a meaningful one. Publishing my first two books taught me more than I expected. I learned about patience, about trusting myself, and about letting go of the fear that no one would care about what I had to say. At the same time, I was learning how to be a wife and a mother while working full time, and balancing those parts of my life with writing was not always easy. There were times when I wrote late at night or in the early morning simply because that was the only quiet space I had. I am very grateful though, because my husband is incredibly supportive. He is a writer as well, so he understands the creative chaos and the moments when the world needs to pause so a poem can breathe. Even with all the challenges, I always knew that I wanted to keep creating, and that commitment is what carried me forward. I now have several other books taking shape and each one is teaching me something new.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My writing is centered on the raw places inside love and the complicated world of mental illness. In my books, Little Tragedies and Scar Tissue, I explored how the two can intertwine in painful and destructive ways, revealing the cracks that form when emotion becomes overwhelming. In my latest book, Midnight Bandit, I focus on the opposite side of that experience, the part where understanding and honesty allow love to become a form of healing. All of them can be found on Amazon. I think what sets me apart is my commitment to writing from a place that is completely unfiltered. I do not try to sound perfect. I write to sound real. I want readers to feel the weight of a moment and the truth of it, even if it is messy. That vulnerability is what I am most proud of. I believe that poetry should make people feel seen, and every time someone tells me that a piece of mine put words to something they could not express, I am reminded why I started this journey in the first place.
What are your plans for the future?
I am very excited about what comes next. I currently have three books that I am preparing to publish, and each one feels like a different chapter of my life finally coming into the world. I am looking forward to expanding my reach, connecting with more readers, and challenging myself to grow as a writer. I also want to explore new creative spaces, possibly working with other artists or stepping into spoken word events. My goal is to continue sharing work that resonates deeply with people and to create a collection of art that reflects every season of my life. The future feels full, and I am ready for it.
