Hi Jeimy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started when I was laid off twice in 2019. With no job and plenty of time in hand. I always dreamt of having my own business. I started doing some research reading books, recipes and watching countless videos on soap making. And that’s where I took off! It inspired me to know that I can make natural products that smell amazing and aren’t harmful to your skin. The upcoming year, I made it a point to make something small for my wedding and it was a success! My passion in life has always been to help others and I’m grateful to create a company that can do just that. I’m constantly thanking God and telling him how grateful I am in giving me a vision. A chance to inspire and help others as I make every handmade product with love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having a small business is never smooth. I’ve had my equal shares of ups and downs. Many times I’ve wanted to give up, but I know deep down this is my calling. You don’t just walk away from creating something that doesn’t just benefit you but others. Marketing was one of my biggest struggles, the loop holes and strategies to market myself was so difficult. I’ve done this with no help and it’s been definitely a challenge. Different online markets such as Pinterest and Etsy weren’t helpful, it’s extremely competitive.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a full time Recruiter for a well known Medical Company that owns over 100 Medical Centers in Florida and Texas. I’ve been in Recruiting for over 20 years. Grateful Skin Co. is known for our Cold Process Soaps, Sugar Scrubs, Chamomile Lotion Bars, Herbal Rollers and Lip Balms. I’m most proud of being able to provide amazing products that have helped numerous people with all Skin Types and Conditions. What sets us apart is our Customer service, attention to detail and providing products with healthy simple ingredients.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice to anyone who wants to start a small business is to learn how to market your brand. I would highly recommend on taking an online self-marketing course, this is where a lot of small businesses struggle. This allows your company to grow as a whole and create exposure to your audience. Another piece of advice I would give is to have a business plan. A few things I wish I knew about running a business were; Inventory, budget planning and keeping track of expenses. If I knew this before going in blindly, I would’ve been better prepared. I can’t stress enough how important it is to inform yourself before getting into building a business.
