Rising Stars: Meet Janine Booth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janine Booth.

Hi Janine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from Perth, Australia, and moved to Miami in 2010. From the moment I arrived, I loved everything about the city, the culture, the lifestyle, the food, the beaches, and the palm trees! Right away, I felt a connection between Miami and Australia and I felt right at home.

I have been a chef for 13 years however my parents had restaurants, ice cream stores, and many other businesses growing up so it felt natural to me to become an entrepreneur in my way and open my restaurants with my husband Jeff who is also a chef.

Before becoming a chef, I studied to be an esthetician and took many classes in natural medicine and homeopathy and I have been able to combine all of my passions through my restaurants and with the creation of my beauty brand Sunny Side Up.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is beautiful, wonderful, and full of ups and downs! Choosing to be a Chef and restaurateur is not the easiest of paths although I wouldn’t change anything! I love what I do, however, there are daily, weekly, and monthly struggles!

Little by little you work through the challenges and obstacles and although working with your spouse can be tricky at times, I am lucky to have my husband Jeff as my partner and by my side as we support each other throughout everything.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a restaurateur and creative. Together with my husband, we are partners in many restaurants throughout the US and Caribbean:

Miami:
Stiltsville Fish Bar
Root & Bone
Mitalia Kitchen + Bar
Sunny Side Up (opening this summer)
Tackle Box (Opening this summer)

Puerto Rico:
Trova Coastal Kitchen
Roots Coastal Kitchen

Indianapolis:
Root & Bone

We also cater many different events!

In addition to these restaurants, I am the creator of my eco-friendly and natural beauty company – Sunny Side Up.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
My advice to those starting would be always put your hand up, take every opportunity that comes your way, volunteer, collaborate, work hard, stay focused on your goals, and work your way up slowly learning the skills as you go so when you are at the top you know exactly what you you are doing.
