Rising Stars: Meet Gloria Marie Fuentes of Doral

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Marie Fuentes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story started with multiple jobs, side gigs, and a few failed business ideas—along with two that found real success. Every turn taught me something about grit, creativity, and the value of building things that last.
Today, I’m the East Coast Lead for Business Development & Strategy at Emser Tile, working in the Custom Builder, Luxury & Outdoor division. I partner with builders, architects, designers, and developers to bring beautiful spaces to life—from interiors to façades, pools, and patios. My focus is on connection and collaboration: helping teams align early, spec smart, and keep projects on track from concept to completion.
Before joining Emser, I built and led GloJoy Co., a boutique design-build firm known for its client-first approach and ability to manage complex retail, restaurant, and historic renovation projects nationwide. As a third-generation entrepreneur with a background in banking and construction, I’ve seen this industry from every side—from the field to the boardroom—and I’m passionate about bridging those worlds with clarity and intention.
Now, I balance shaping partnerships at Emser, advising GloJoy as a board member, and mentoring the next generation of builders and leaders. At the end of the day, my purpose is simple: to build with meaning, and help others do the same.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Transitioning from white collar to blue collar was never something I planned. As a college dropout, I struggled to find my place in corporate environments where degrees and alumni status seemed to matter more than actual intelligence, work ethic, and capability. I faced more challenges trying to fit into corporate America than I ever have in the construction industry. Sure, there have been some uphill battles—but that comes with any new career or opportunity. What truly matters is what you make of it along the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a general contractor with experience across multiple brands in the construction industry, driven by a passion for building, strategy, and connecting people.

As the East Coast Lead for Business Development & Strategy at Emser Tile’s Custom Builder, Luxury & Outdoor division, I partner with builders, designers, and developers to bring visionary spaces to life. A third-generation entrepreneur and founder of GloJoy Co., I blend hands-on field experience, creative problem-solving, and a passion for collaboration to help clients build smarter, align early, and deliver with purpose.

In addition to my daily grind, I also find time to speak at industry events as well as schools to advocate for our industry, the skilled trades gap, and small family business owners.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People may not know this about me, but in my 20s I used to moonlight as a Latin ballroom and salsa dancer. That passion for movement eventually led me into group fitness and becoming a NASM-certified personal trainer. I went on to compete in endurance races like Tough Mudder and Spartan, and even placed in the top five at the Texas State Natural Bodybuilding Championship.
