Today we’d like to introduce you to Genavieve Villar.
Hi Genavieve, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m Genavieve Paige Villar, a Miami native, with Cuban/French roots. From an early age, I have been involved with our beautiful community, from pageants to charities, and at age 20, started my business, Private Label Styles, a high-end women’s lifestyle boutique.
Thereafter, at 24, I started my clothing brand, Genavieve the Label, which specializes in feminine and organic special occasion garments. My aspiration is to grow my brand globally, and offer style, sophistication, and quality at affordable prices. I’ve had the pleasure of designing custom dresses for celebrities, executives, brides/bridal parties, quinceaneras, and what I am most known for, custom prom dresses.
Family is everything! I’m a wife and mother of a beautiful baby boy and another boy on the way. Our philosophy… we work hard but play harder. As such, we travel extensively and have learned so much from other cultures. My favorite destinations to date are Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Bali, Thailand, Maldives, and Dubai. We also love spending time at our Key Largo home, and of course, dabble in real estate.
I love the arts and interior design, which I learned from my mom, cooking like my abuela, and entertaining. At 27, I’m eager to continue into my next Chapter…. with a presence at wholesale showrooms in Miami, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles as a designer.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is a combination of providing excellent customer service, by building strong personal relationships with my clients; designing timeless and feminine styles at great value, and being consistent with every aspect of the same.
Unfortunately, COVID disrupted the business, just like most businesses, so picking up where we left off was tricky. It was a learning experience, and the brand is stronger because of it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I design a woman’s lifestyle clothing brand that is timeless, feminine, and well-priced with organic fabrics and finishes. In addition, I offer custom clothing for special events, wherein the client is also involved in the design process and in choosing her fabrics.
I own a store in Miami, Florida that offers handmade fashion and accessories using a mixture of elements found worldwide, with a modern influence to create my signature style. As such, I am always in a constant state of movement, traveling, researching, and creating to personally hand-select unique items just for my clients.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I take risks on a daily basis. My biggest risk has been to take my brand, Genavieve the Label wholesale. As such, other boutiques are now able to purchase my designs at wholesale prices. Anytime I introduce a new brand, product, etc., I am taking a risk, because I don’t know how fast it will sell.
Moreover, nobody could have predicted covid, and undoubtedly it changed the fashion retail industry. I took a risk by continuing to invest in the future of my boutique and brand because I believe in myself and my brand.
