Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernando Contreras.
Hi Fernando, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Exercising has been part of my life since I was about 6 or 7, and took on a structured exercise discipline when I was 12. My second passion is to help others achieve and improve their Health & Fitness in aviation through knowledge and experience. I had an amazing opportunity to train at BPS back in 2011-2013. There, I got trained with professional athletes who are in the MLB and NFL, and I had the BEST training experience alongside them. Learned a TON about athletic training also. Then in 2015, I also had an incredible opportunity to work for Billy Beck who is now the personal trainer of Tony Robbins.
Early in my aviation career, I discovered that being a pilot wasn’t my only dream and passion. Over the last four years, I have taken all that knowledge and applied it to the dynamic lifestyle of a crew member. As NASM certified PT and Robbins-Madaness certified Intervention Coach, I educate on exercise and mindset training for people who constantly travel. Over the past few years, the impact has grown worldwide.
The aviation industry brings a lot of challenges to keep your health in good condition. It’s very easy to let it slip away, and not everyone has the discipline to maintain it at optimal. It’s all about balance, education, and effort from the individual on what actions to take that will shape their lifestyle. There are so many factors that change how you can exercise and eat when you’re flying. Over the years, I’ve learned to master these unexpected events mentally as well as physically. Not everyone has to do it the same, but my job as a PT and Intervention Coach is to provide the education for each individual to take and adapt it their needs and lifestyle.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s definitely been a lot of struggles along the way. I think that these struggles definitely have helped me gain clarity on how I’d like to go about positively impacting people through health and fitness. Some of the struggles have been developing the website and what to include. What kind of videos should I make? Should I do youtube or podcast? Creating workout programs for pilots and cabin crew on the road. How to promote it and make it accessible? How much money can I work with to fund the operations? Should I go back to training individual clients? All those questions play a big part because in my head, I believe I can make it all possible which ever route I take, and I would just need some guidance to start it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a captain at a regional airline and I started FITAVIATORSCLUB. As a certified personal training and Intervention coach, I coach and educate crew members and frequent travelers on how to maintain health and fitness more optimal during their travel. Locally and internationally, I’ve been recognized for the motivation and positive impact of improving health and wellness for aviation crews and also for airshow performers in which I personally train in fitness as well.
I am mostly proud of the positive impact I’ve had on others. It’s the reason why I do everything I do and how much better I can deliver information and content to others to create a more powerful impact. I think that what sets me apart from others is that my motivation to do what I do, is the contribution I want to provide to others by sharing the knowledge and strategies I know and developed.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I eat sweets, haha I have a little bit every day. Which I don’t think it’s too harmful. Also, that I run my page on a one man show.
