Rising Stars: Meet Depot Msa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Depot Msa.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a big kid that never grew up.

Growing up in Miami, seeing vibrate pastel colors, flamboyant people from all over the world, doing whatever they wanted Has really inspired me to see life around like a movie frame, I loved graffiti and trains growing up, and I would ride in the car and on the metro rail and see these pops of color and I had to take photographs of it, it really called to me.

I then started asking my friends to pose with work I really resonated with and since I was going all over town looking for graffiti to shoot I would find all these dope spots to Photograph in, so I got started location scouting and I met some of the best friends with the same passion for exploring Miami as I did.

So we run around town, spending every dollar we had going from tunnels, old track sides, abandon buildings, and rooftops. Then when we got into Miami’s history, we learned about Julia Tuttle and Henry Flager. Then that passion turned into this look that people love or hate which is Miami it’s bold, it’s bright, it’s dark, and beautiful on the surface but when you dig deep there’s a story there something mysterious and intriguing.

Like those graffiti spots I grew up chasing the places were terrible, yet the color and the letter structure popped with inspiration from them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started photography things were great.

It was my outlet for being free, but as the concepts, I wanted to do evolved and had darker meanings people started to turn on me, and now with the censorship online from Instagram and Facebook it’s harder to be free and put things out there.

Another big challenge I’ve faced is egos, I’ve seen many two-faced people who want to help you yet slander your name, and the best advice I can give is to try to stay on your path and it will all work out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known for showing the world how I see through my eyes through photography.

I specialize in environmental portraits and photographing the mundane beauty of my city, I am super proud of everyone who can see the beauty in life, and what sets me apart from others is my drive to keep going even in the face of defeat.

A positive mindset is the most valuable asset.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about the city is the People without all the cultures here, we would not have this amazing place, I love the sunsets, cotton candy skies are the best after a long day, I love our heritage and culture, the little kiss we give each other when saying hello, The Cuban coffee breaks and the croquettas and Jupina.

Now the thing I most hate about our city that needs to be fixed, The politics, The Miami mayor needs to go, the city parks and beaches have hours of operation and those must be removed, it’s crazy that was trying to watch the sunset on key Biscayne and the park ranger is going around with a high-frequency horn telling everyone to leave or you will be towed.

It’s crazy that in the freest country in the world we have south point park close at 10 pm and north beach closing at 10 pm the money is not being used from our taxes in the right way and we gotta fix that, also its 95 degrees outside and our postal workers have trucks with no ac, it’s not right, also our lights are way too long,
