Rising Stars: Meet Debbie Roppo of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Roppo.

Hi Debbie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My work began long before I had language for it.

As a little girl, I would sit quietly and somehow calm my own body. I didn’t know what meditation was. I only knew that something within me knew how to settle.

Years later, life would bring me back to that knowing in a much bigger way.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. At the time I was working in orthopedics, taking X-rays of women with the same diagnosis, watching the progression year after year. So when the doctors told me I would likely be in a wheelchair within five years if I didn’t take the prescribed medication, I understood exactly what they meant.

But something within me was equally clear. I was not going to take that path. I had to find another way.

I started where most people start. Nutrition and movement. I explored functional approaches to health and inflammation. Those shifts helped. But over time I began to see something deeper.

The physical changes mattered. But they were not the whole story.

What I began to recognize was that I had been unkind to myself for a very long time. The way I spoke to myself. The pressure I placed on myself. The expectations I carried without question. It was relentless. And eventually I had to look at that too.

That inner work, including Internal Family Systems, led me to something I had never fully allowed myself to believe. That even through my mistakes, even through my regrets, I was still innocent. Still good. Something in me softened when I realized that. And something in my body began to change.

Around that same time, I had an experience that would shape everything I do now. I was sitting in meditation, asking the question I had been asking for a long time. What am I here to do? An image appeared. A woman on the ground, completely covered in veils. Each veil carried a message. You are not enough. Be quiet. Hide this. And when I asked her who she was, she whispered, I am nothing.

I demanded she tell me the truth. And she stood up. She threw the veils off one by one. And what was underneath was a radiant, powerful, whole woman.

In that moment I understood what I was here to do.

The problem was never the woman. It was the veils.

I became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, and I built The Inner Empire™ around exactly that vision. The work addresses three systems: Inner Alignment, Behavior Patterns, and Physical Vitality, because lasting health and leadership require all three working together.

I work specifically with women between 50 and 75. Women who are leading, building, and carrying real responsibility, and who are beginning to feel a shift they can’t quite name. Most of them have been told it’s just aging. I see it differently. I call it The Upgrade Phase.

The body is not declining. It is becoming more precise. It is asking for stronger systems. And the women who respond to that shift don’t slow down. They rise in a different kind of clarity.

That is the work. Helping women strengthen the body and mind that carry their vision, because the outer empire a woman builds is only as strong as the Inner Empire™ that sustains it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. It has not been a smooth road.

And I think that is actually part of the point.

The diagnosis was the beginning, not the hardest part. What came after required something I was not sure I had. The willingness to look at myself honestly. Not just my habits or my health, but the way I had been living inside my own head for decades.

I had been a bully to myself for a long time. I just had not seen it clearly until I had no choice but to look.

That inner work was uncomfortable in ways that nutrition and movement never were. Changing what I ate was hard. Changing what I believed about myself was a different kind of hard entirely.

And building a business around that work brought its own set of challenges.

One of the biggest was this: many women come in resistant to the idea that spirituality belongs in the same conversation as strategy. They have been taught to keep those worlds separate. Business is logical. Spirituality is personal. Never mix the two.

But that separation is exactly the problem.

Inner Alignment is the root system of everything I teach. It is not the soft part of the work. It is the foundation that determines whether everything else holds. When a woman’s inner voice is working against her, when her self-talk is relentless and her connection to herself is fractured, no strategy is going to save her. The roots have to be strong.

The body is the business. That is not a metaphor. Your clarity, your presence, your ability to lead and decide and sustain what you are building, all of it runs through one system. You. And that system has a spiritual dimension whether we acknowledge it or not.

Helping women see that the two are not in conflict, that being spiritually grounded and strategically sharp are not opposites, that has been some of the most important work I do.

I also had to confront my own resistance along the way. There were moments I questioned whether I was enough. Whether what I had built was clear enough, credible enough, different enough. Those thoughts did not disappear just because I had done inner work. They got quieter. But they showed up.

What kept me moving was the women I sat with. Every time I watched someone begin to lift the weight she had been carrying, every time I saw her eyes change, I remembered why this work exists.

The road has not been smooth. But every rough stretch taught me something I now bring into the room with every client. That is not a coincidence. That is the work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach. I am the founder of The Inner Empire™, a whole-person health and leadership coaching practice for women between 50 and 75.

My work sits at the intersection of physical health, behavior patterns, and inner identity. Those are not three separate conversations. They are one integrated system. And when all three are strengthened together, something remarkable happens. A woman stops forcing results and begins producing them from a place of genuine internal strength.

What I specialize in is helping women who lead, who build, who carry real responsibility, and who are beginning to feel a shift they cannot quite name. Their energy is changing. Their body feels different. Their clarity is not what it was. Most have been told it is just aging.

I call it The Upgrade Phase. The body is not declining. It is becoming more precise. It is asking for stronger systems. And the women who respond to that shift do not slow down. They rise in a different kind of clarity.

What sets me apart is the framework I have built and the way I work within it.

Most approaches treat health and leadership as separate conversations. I do not. The body is the business. It is not a side concern to get to when things slow down. It is the system that carries everything. Your clarity of thought, your presence in a room, your ability to hold a vision and make decisions under pressure. All of it runs through one infrastructure. You.

The Inner Empire™ framework works across three systems: Inner Alignment, Behavior Patterns, and Physical Vitality. Each system has a role. Inner Alignment is the root system. It is where identity lives, where leadership begins, and where the inner voice either steadies a woman or quietly works against her. When that foundation is strong, everything above it strengthens.

I also bring something into this work that most coaches in this space do not. I hold space for the spiritual dimension of health and leadership without asking women to choose between their faith and their strategy. Being spiritually grounded and strategically sharp are not opposites. They belong together. That integration is central to what I do.

What am I most proud of?

The woman who walked in exhausted and disconnected and walked out six months later with her eyes lit up again. The one who told me her doctor called her and asked what she had been doing because her numbers had shifted. The one who said for the first time in years she felt like herself.

Those moments are why this work exists.

I am also proud that I built something true. The Inner Empire™ was not designed from a marketing brief. It came from my own healing, my own unraveling, and my own rebuilding. Every element of this framework is something I lived before I ever taught it. That matters to me. And I think the women I work with can feel the difference.

Any big plans?
The foundation is strong. The next chapter is about reach.

I have always worked in private one-on-one coaching partnerships and I will continue to. But I am expanding The Inner Empire™ in two directions that I am genuinely excited about.

The first is group coaching. There is something that happens when women in this season of life recognize themselves in each other. The isolation lifts. The work deepens. Group coaching brings the framework to more women while creating a community where the transformation becomes collective.

The second is a membership. A place for women to stay connected to this work over time, continue going deeper into the framework, and have ongoing access to tools, teachings, and each other. Some women are ready to keep expanding long after a program ends. The membership is how I make that possible.

I am also continuing to grow through writing, speaking, and media. The message that the body is the business needs to reach more women. Especially women who have been pushing through for so long they have forgotten what it feels like to lead from strength.

More women. Deeper impact. And a community where no woman has to figure this out alone.
