Today we’d like to introduce you to David Hoyuela
Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My family has been in the ice cream business for over 65 years, myself about 35 years.
We make ice cream the old fashion way. With 100% natural fruit and ingredients. No sugar. No artificial flavors, no coloring or any other chemicals. Just cream and fruit.
We came to the USA 9 years ago and we have been making new ice cream flavors, basically European flavors, like the red wine, goat cheese with apricots, rompope, banana Nutella, dark chocolate without cream, white chocolate with maraschino cherries, etc.
In my personal experience, the last few years I have worked in different countries with different chefs, that’s why I learned how to make very creamy ice cream.
Now Rosa Ice cream offers different flavors than other ice cream shops. We also make the ice cream for other ice cream shops, restaurants, etc.
Also we make homemade popsicles, all 100% natural. We offer more than 50 flavors. And we are having new flavors every month so people can try something different every time they visit us.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely a hard road. Because at the beginning nobody knows us. So we went door by door offering our products. Inviting people to taste our products and sometimes they didn’t because they didn’t know where they came from. We also start showing at the green markets and once people try it they came back for more.
The three first years were complicated. Low sales, no traffic at the shop, and going out to restaurants and people at the street offering our products.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Definitely the kind of ice cream we make. Exotic and not so regular flavors. Like the Jack Daniel’s with cinnamon and black butter ice cream.
I’m proud of all flavors we make at the shop, I do it personally and always looking for new combinations.
Working with different chefs in different countries makes me have a new vision about flavors and combinations.
That’s what I love about my work.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Always be happy doing what you love. Is like not having to go to work.
And be patient, consistent and offer always the top quality ingredients no matter what.
Enjoy life. Our clients always said that I’m smiling all the time. And is true. I love when people come to the shop and wants to try all flavors.
