Today we’d like to introduce you to Danika Jackson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was about 15 years old, my best friend’s mother passed away from cancer and it was an emotional time for her entire family.
Even though it was a tough time, her mother made sure to plan ahead in the event that she would not be around any longer. She took care of my best friend and her presence in that regard is still felt today.
Around the same time, my father was recovering from The Great Recession. The interest rate on his mortgage had skyrocketed and he had to foreclose on our home.
My grandparents were our saving grace. They saved up enough money to give up their home and purchase a second home for themselves. I started The Budget Companion after dreaming about it for over 2 years. I had the idea to design a planner that would focus on a different topic in financial literacy that people should know about.
During the pandemic, I had a lot of free time, and during that time I decided to focus that energy on the dream that I had. I had the advantage of not working a 9 to 5 so my new 9 to 5 was my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most certainly has not been a smooth road. When I first started, getting all of my ideas and finding a way to bring them to life was the easiest part.
One of the biggest challenges for The Budget Companion as a whole has been getting people to hear about the product, gaining a committed audience, and constantly producing content to keep people interested.
There is more than enough information to provide to people but it’s the time to create posts on social media that are creative and unique in order to gain a following has been challenging. A lot of money and time is involved when it came to marketing and also establishing a brand.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the founder, Lead content creator, and CEO of The Budget Companion, LLC.
We specialize in promoting financial literacy by providing materials to help our people learn more about taking care of their personal finances and business finances.
The unique thing about us is the fact that aside from eLearning courses we provide financial literacy planners and other tools to help people organize their lives around their financial planning.
We believe that everyone’s financial situation is not the same. We also believe that when it comes to your finances this is not something that you master overnight.
The world of finance is constantly changing. The rules are constantly changing, and we are here to help you and keep you informed about money management through our products, social media platforms, eLearning courses, and personal finance coaching.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I was in the Miss Jamaica Florida Beauty pageant in 2016 and I won Miss Photogenic.
The Budget Companion has had the privilege to work with a municipality to provide over 50 financial literacy planners to members of their first-time homebuyers club.
This club was designed to teach and prepare members about the home buying process and managing their personal finances.
