Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Gonzalez.
Hi Claudia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began as a filmmaker, drawn to stories that capture the emotional depth within everyday life — the pauses, silences, and subtle details that reveal our shared humanity. When my grandmother began living with dementia, it changed how I understood storytelling. Loving someone so deeply through that experience taught me about memory, connection, and the many layers of grief that can arise even while a person is still with us. Over time, that understanding led me to pursue a master’s degree in mental health. My work has often centered around grief — exploring how people make meaning and heal through it. After working across different mental health settings, I found myself drawn to intensive outpatient care and eventually transitioned into my current role as a bereavement specialist, where I support people through one of the most natural yet transformative human experiences: loss. Today, I’m merging both paths — digital content and mental health — to create stories and spaces that foster healing, reflection, and emotional connection.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t believe smooth roads truly exist. Life is a constant unfolding — and if we can accept that we are beings of continuous change, we become more willing to grieve the everyday and surrender the idea that things are supposed to stay the same. For me, the challenges along the way have been opportunities to grow more attuned to myself and to others. There have been moments of uncertainty, loss, and transformation, but also moments of deep joy, laughter, and connection in the midst of it all. I’ve learned that the path doesn’t need to be smooth to be meaningful — it just needs to be lived with awareness, radical presence, compassion, and a willingness to embrace change.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a mental health professional, I focus on grief — not only in the context of loss through death, but also the many forms of grief that emerge through change, identity shifts, and life transitions. My work centers on helping people understand grief as a natural and deeply human response rather than something to “get over.” As an integrative facilitator, I support both individuals and groups, creating spaces that invite reflection, emotional awareness, and healing through dialogue, creativity, and presence.
With a background in filmmaking and digital storytelling, I bring an experiential and expressive lens to mental health care. I often merge these two worlds — therapeutic practice and creative communication — to design programs, workshops, and digital content that foster connection and emotional resilience. I’m most proud of creating meaningful experiences that help people feel seen and understood, whether through a grief group, sound healing, or visual narrative. What sets me apart is my ability to bridge art and psychology — transforming the language of loss into one of renewal, self-discovery, and shared humanity
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I always say I “start out” every day. Each morning is a new beginning — an opportunity to recommit to the work, the purpose, and the person I want to be. Consistency is key. Routine, or what I like to call ritual, keeps you grounded when everything else feels uncertain. Keep your word — with yourself and with others. Integrity builds trust, and trust builds longevity in any field.
Tell people what you see in them and remind them of the value they hold; sometimes your reflection becomes the mirror they need. Stay honest with yourself, even when it’s uncomfortable — that’s where real growth happens. And most importantly, invest your energy in the things that bring you passion and love. When you lead from that place, the right opportunities and resources, including money, naturally follow.
