Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Cantu.
Hi Carmen, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, thanks for having me! I work in the beauty industry, and I run my hair and makeup business, “Glam by Carmen.” I also have a music label, “Can2 Music & Media,” with my business partner & sister, Paula Cantu.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been an interesting journey.
Sometimes the biggest obstacle can be ourselves. Some struggles were learning to believe in myself and not fear taking chances. I’m learning to trust my gut.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional hairstylist and makeup artist. I am also a songwriter. I love all creative outlets. I am proud that I can live life being a creative artist. I love what I do, whether it’s doing makeup or hair styling, or working with different producers and singers. Being creative is my passion. What sets me apart from others is that I won’t stop or give up easily. I will keep going no matter how hard it gets – I keep working hard.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve been very fortunate to have amazing strong, and talented people mentor me and inspire me. I am extremely grateful. Surround yourself with inspiring people who support your vision. Find a group of people that do what you want to do and introduce yourself. Be yourself, be joyful, and follow your passion.
