Hi Carmela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Pensacola, FL, where I became fascinated with art early on. I started drawing at the age of six and used drawing as an outlet. At the age of fourteen, I began writing poetry to release the emotions I was too afraid to express out loud. Expressing myself through these two forms of art and poetry has been crucial for several reasons.
Firstly, it has been a powerful outlet for my emotions and thoughts, allowing me to process and understand my inner experiences. Art and poetry have enabled me to communicate my complex thoughts and feelings that are often difficult to articulate with words alone.
Secondly, my creative expression has fostered a sense of personal fulfillment and well-being. Painting and writing have been an actual therapeutic process for me, reducing stress and improving my mental health by giving me a way to release tension and find peace. It also boosts my confidence and self-esteem as my ideas take shape and resonate with others.
Expressing myself through art and poetry is essential for my continued personal growth and happiness. It is a vital means of exploring my creativity, asserting my voice, and making sense of the world around me. Ultimately, painting and writing poetry helped me reclaim my narrative from the grip of trauma.
They enabled me to tell my story in a way that was both healing and empowering, transforming my pain into a source of strength and resilience. Through these creative practices, I discovered not only a path to recovery but also a means to inspire and support others who might be facing similar challenges.
All my experiences have shaped me and molded me into who I am today. These events—whether good or bad—became a part of my DNA, shaping who I am. As an artist and poet who enjoys painting abstract art and writing poetry that reflects the human spirit, my work is a delicate combination of passion, inspiration, imagination, and deep conviction.
I want to create ambiguous abstract art that blurs the lines between multi-dimensional realities. I paint and write from a deep place where light meets dark and dark meets light. My bold and vibrant paintings and words reveal the human spirit’s struggle, strength, and resilience. As an intuitive painter and writer, I am inspired by the emotions of the human spirit.
My ultimate aspiration is to inspire and empower people through my art and poetry. My artistic and literary creations reflect my unique, vivid, and dynamic life experiences. I firmly believe that our intuition, that inner voice we all possess, speaks to us first. It’s a glimpse into our spiritual souls on the journey of life. This vision, I believe, is also evident in my creations!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
First, being an up-and-coming artist and writer presents numerous obstacles and challenges that can be both daunting and disheartening. Self-doubt and rejection are constant companions on this journey.
The subjective nature of art and literature means that personal taste and market trends can significantly impact one’s success. Rejection from galleries or critics can definitely be a blow to your self-esteem, sometimes making it difficult to maintain confidence and motivation.
Second, maintaining confidence and motivation and overcoming mental blocks when creating present significant challenges that can hinder the artistic and writing process. These blocks often manifest as feelings of motivation, lack of inspiration, and overwhelming frustration within me to complete something I can be proud of. Navigating these mental obstacles requires patience and resilience.
Sometimes, my ideas don’t flow, and the blank canvas or empty page seems daunting. Finding ways to spark creativity can be particularly challenging but not impossible. When I encounter this problem, I take a much-needed break from painting or writing and allow myself to be creative in other ways. I might play with LEGOs, listen to music, dance, or switch between painting and writing to keep my creative momentum going.
Third, balancing creative work with other life responsibilities is a significant challenge that requires a delicate and intentional approach. As an artist and writer, my passion for my craft often competes with various demands on my time and energy, making it essential to develop strategies for effective time management and prioritization. I have learned that setting boundaries and communicating my needs to those closest to me is vital for maintaining balance.
Another obstacle that all artists and writers experience in their careers is gaining visibility and recognition in saturated markets. With countless talented individuals vying for attention, standing out and making a name for oneself can be incredibly challenging. The competitive nature of the arts industry often means that despite producing high-quality work, getting noticed by publishers, galleries, or audiences requires persistent effort and a bit of luck.
Despite these challenges, my passion for creating and sharing my voice with the world drives me as an artist and writer to persevere through it all. This journey requires resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering belief in my vision.
Each one of these obstacles presents an opportunity for growth, pushing me to refine my skills, develop resilience, and deepen my understanding of my craft. Ultimately, the rewards of sharing my unique voice and connecting with others through my work make the journey worthwhile.

My family and friends deserve a lot of credit; they have been unwavering in their support and encouragement throughout my creative journey. Their belief in my potential and constant motivation has been invaluable. Without their push and steadfast presence, I wouldn’t have had the courage to pursue my passions in painting and writing.
Their love and support have been the foundation upon which I have built my creative endeavors and have provided me with the foundation to stand on no matter the situation. Knowing that I have a network of people who believe in me, celebrate my successes, and lift me up in times of uncertainty has given me the confidence to push past my limits and strive for greatness.
