Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Diane.
Beverly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was a little girl – even as far back as elementary school – I was always the one who was asked to create something, whether it be the title for a science experiment, a teacher’s bulletin board, or the cover of a book report. As I got older, I continued to do such tasks on a more advanced level – and many others – as well as seamlessly coordinate every friend’s birthday party, youth group function, fundraiser, and the list goes on. I even started writing candlelighting poems for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs in middle school. It just came naturally to me, and I loved it.
I went on to continue my higher education at the University of South Florida, where I received a degree in Mass Communications with a major in advertising. I was fortunate to get a job at The Miami Herald, where I excelled in the Sales & Marketing department, crushing sales goals and developing significant retail marketing programs. Later, it became a natural progression for “Special Events Manager” to be added to my already prominent position, which I ended up working for a total of 10 years. The prestigious “Silver Knight Awards” ceremony was one of my favorite events, which I was proud to be a part of. However, I was frequently asked to do some freelance writing for the community news section and write copy for all my promotions. I knew then that my love for writing never ceased.
Much later on, I decided I wanted to be a mom and spend all my time raising my girls. As they grew, I was once again organizing school events & fundraisers, being the room parent, and of course, throwing lavish birthday parties. During this time, I was obsessed with scrapbooking and journaling every detail of their lives in the most creative way. And, as always, I planned friends’ milestone events and grand-opening celebrations.
After a few moves, I went back to the workforce and was thrilled to become the marketing director at a high-end jewelry store in Charlotte, North Carolina. I wrote radio, billboard, newspaper, magazine, and all social media copy for store campaigns, and created in-store events. Simultaneously, I opened “Party Girl Productions” and started planning a few parties while I navigated the industry in unknown territory and began freelancing for a notable hyper-local website featuring the “best of the best” for shopping, health & beauty, and more targeted to area women …again combining the best of both worlds in which I excelled.
Soon after, this Miami native moved back home to South Florida and became a managing editor for a popular local publication that published eight separate issues, in which I handled four. I was able to search and write my own stories, be a ghostwriter for various professions, write cover stories and advertorials, have creative control over my pieces, and be a media figure in all of the communities I controlled. But… I still wanted more personal interaction and the ability to express my creative side. So, I teamed up with an old friend who owned a premier South Florida event company, and we did the most incredible parties together for almost a decade. Besides assisting with events, I took care of the marketing end as well.
Fast forward again, and I finally opened my own boutique event planning agency, beverly diane party consultants, where celebrating life’s milestone moments is my passion. I’ve been told that my creative vision, sense of humor, and flair for details are why my events are always memorable. I believe that every girl deserves a fairy tale wedding, and I put my heart and soul into making that happen.
I have had the luxury of doing what I love to do, and I certainly do not plan on stopping now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, roads are bumpy, and sometimes it is not a smooth ride, but fortunately, being a creative person and a natural problem-solver, I always managed to find a way. The pandemic was most definitely the biggest struggle. I never worked harder while not making any income. All events were cancelled, my brides were crying, and I was endlessly comforting, rearranging, and replanning everything. It was awful, but we all survived and came out stronger.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I absolutely love what “I DO”! I love planning weddings, and I am known as being my clients’ fairy godmother. However, “I DO” love my other affectionate names: therapist, wizard, magician, event architect, voice of reason, best friend, big sister, and the list goes on. I have an extremely organized approach, which keeps my clients calm and excited that on their BIG day, they can show up and enjoy every minute, since I am sure that every detail, big and small, is taken care of.
It is an honor and a privilege to be an integral part of such a milestone moment in people’s lives. I am beyond proud of each event I plan, design, organize, and execute, regardless of its scale. I am also proud of the relationships I get to develop during this time. My clients and I create a special bond while planning, and we stay connected long after the BIG day is over. Most importantly, I am so fortunate that I get to do this with my husband, who is an incredibly talented, renowned floral decorator. We love designing together, and our clients love this as well. Not many can say that they get to do the thing they love with the person they love every single day.
I am often told that what sets me apart from others is how much I truly care, and also that my true passion to protect something so sacred never goes unnoticed.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Besides social media feeds, inspiration is everywhere. Everyday things inspire me…the outdoors, the ocean, the sunshine… Inspiration awaits around every corner, from a magazine at the supermarket checkout and a department store window display to a piece of clothing or fabric on a chair. Vacations in Europe are always the most inspirational for me. Disconnecting to enjoy nature, museums, boutique shops, galleries, and more abroad are great resources to reconnect the brain and the soul. “They” say one should always “stop and smell the roses,” and I believe this to be great advice that I follow every day.
