Today we’d like to introduce you to Armando Lossada. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Born and raised in the vibrant culture of Venezuela, Armando’s creative journey began at an early age, influenced significantly by his mother, a kindergarten teacher who nurtured his artistic and narrative skills. His passion for storytelling flourished alongside his love for movies and anime, laying the foundation for his future in children’s literature.
Despite pursuing an engineering degree, Armando’s creative spirit never waned. Immigrating to the United States in 2018, he chose to follow his heart, dedicating himself to writing children’s books—a decision fueled by his engineering background, his love for storytelling, and his desire to inspire the younger generation.
Armando is now proud to announce the release of his debut children’s book, “The Lady & The Fool” a captivating tale that weaves the magic of friendship, the importance of balancing life’s responsibilities, and the joy of creative expression through a delightful narrative that children and adults alike will find both entertaining and meaningful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Navigating the path to becoming an author, especially without a formal education in literature, presented its own set of challenges. I had to do lots of research to understand the nuances of storytelling, particularly for the delicate audience of children’s books. Every word, every scene had to be meticulously crafted to ensure it was not only engaging but also appropriate and enriching for young minds.
The visual aspect added another layer of complexity. In an illustrated book, the colors and imagery play a vital role in conveying emotions and enhancing the storytelling experience. I had to learn how to collaborate effectively with my illustrator to ensure that each scene’s palette resonated with the intended mood and message.
Moreover, coming from an engineering background, where problem-solving often involves working with existing elements or blueprints, transitioning to the realm of writing was a significant shift. Unlike engineering, where solutions are rooted in logic and principles, writing demanded a different kind of creativity—one that required delving deep into my own imagination and experiences.
Every aspect of writing a book, from the initial concept to the final draft, required a profound personal journey. It demanded introspection, resilience, and a willingness to push past my comfort zone. But despite the challenges, the process was incredibly rewarding.
To see my ideas and stories come to life on the page, to know that they might inspire and delight young readers—it’s a feeling like no other. Writing this book has not only fulfilled a lifelong dream but has also enriched my life in ways I could never have imagined.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I work as a Telecommunications Engineer for an Internet Provider, where I specialize in ensuring seamless connectivity for users. However, my passion also lies in the arts and literature. My debut book has been a deeply fulfilling journey, and I’m immensely proud of its success, particularly reaching the top 100 on Amazon in the Royalty category—a space typically dominated by Disney princesses.
I think what sets me apart is my unique perspective as an immigrant from Venezuela, a culturally rich country. This background has endowed me with a different lens through which I view storytelling, imbued with Latin values that I aim to share in my future books. I believe this blend of experiences, perspectives as well as my problem-solving engineering background enriches my work and sets it apart.
