Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Turowska.
Anna , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have moved to US from Poland in 2002 when I was 19 years old in order to pursue my Ballroom Dancing career. I used to work as an instructor at Fred Astaire Dance Studio on the Upper West Side in Manhattan for many years teaching lots of wedding couples who were preparing for their first wedding dances, etc as well as many other students, couples competing with them. After I stopped dancing professionally teaching was not satisfying enough for me and something was missing so I decided to just quit and start all over again – find something that I will enjoy again – at the time not knowing what that would be. I worked the rest of my stay in New York in hospitality business waitressing, bartending, helping with events and by the end with a local developer helping with interior design. Those jobs were great since I needed to pay my bills but that was still not something I would see myself doing in a long run. I also knew that I wanted to work for myself.
In 2014 I moved to Florida Keys – Key West and worked as a wedding planner for almost 5 years – first as an assistant and then worked my way up. Dancing and teaching was not an option since couple’s came here just for the week of the destination wedding.
I started Effortless Creations in 2019 when I realized the lack of unique welcome gift options for my wedding couples and their guests. Key West as a destination wedding location made it difficult for traveling couples to bring favors, gifts for their friends and family. This is when the idea hit me and I started brainstorming! Why wouldn’t I make something creative, different and effortless to all of our visitors and provide you with a beautiful product that is delivered right to your hotel door or event!? This is how Effortless Creations came to life! Step by step I build it to where it is today:)
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I do not think it is ever a smooth ride when you start your own business from scratch:) I started Effortless Creations with one credit card that I had, no business experience, in my living room with a 3 year old child but all of those factors were also motivating me and I really believed in this business, did everything that I could to make it work.
My biggest obstacle at the very beginning was definitely finances – I used my credit card to purchases some of my first inventory, finding the right products that people would like to buy/need, finding customers, being patient since success does not happen overnight, fighting your own weaknesses, learning everything along the way, staying motivated working from home in my living room (that was during COVID with a small child on my lap. That was the beginning.
With the business growing there were many other obstacles that showed up but I always focused on finding the solution and doing the inner work to become the person that I needed to be in order to succeed. I think this is how you manifest your success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Effortless Creations is a boutique gifting company where gifts are made with love and creativity! We specialize in gift design for weddings, corporate events, hotel welcome and life’s occasions gifts. We create thoughtful gifts that make every occasion special.
Our company has few different layers and is divided three different sections:
Event Side – weddings, corporate events, retreats, life occasions, etc. You can select from our preset options that we have online or we can create/design a gift that matches your brand, esthetics, needs, find the perfect items for your occasion, etc. We delivery in Florida Keys and Miami area and ship nationwide. There are no minimums when it comes to designing your own gift so if you need 1 or 1000 gifts we are happy to accommodate you.
Retail Side (Only in Key West) – When you come in into our retail gift shop you can buy a single product or you can create your own gift. With the selection of our gift boxes, baskets, bags and a variety of unique local, small business products you become your own gift designer. Once you select your items, we package everything here on site so you leave with a perfectly curated gift (note card, ribbon and all the glamour included:)
Flowers are available for small arrangements and bouquets.
We are also home to our second company called Key West Nut House where we package snacks for local experience and hotel amenities, mini bars etc
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Persistence, disciplin, creativity, strong vision, attention to detail, being personable and building strong relationships, understanding your clients, staying hopeful and always positive even when things are hard, being patient !!! times 10 because success does not happen overnight and it takes a lot of failures, sleepless nights and lots of tears:) believing in yourself, willingness to adopt, thinking and taking that step forward even when you think you are not ready. I always said when you want to grow you can not thing with the wallet and mindset that you have today!
