Today we’d like to introduce you to Anette Marrero.
Hi Anette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I discovered my passion for modeling at a young age when I took a class in New York at just seven years old. I felt at ease walking in front of people and knew that this was something I wanted to pursue. Fast forward to when I was fifteen, and I moved to Boca Raton, Florida, where I felt like I was starting a new chapter in my life. The warm weather, the beach, and the absence of snow made me fall in love with the place instantly.
As a Cuban American, celebrating my quinceanera was an important milestone, and I wanted to capture the moment with a photography session. I decided to work with a quinceanera photography company called BellaQuinces&Photography in Miami. The experience was amazing, and I enjoyed every moment of it. During the shoot, I created a video showcasing my posing skills, and I shared it on Instagram, tagging the company.
I felt thrilled when one of the managers contacted me after viewing the video and inquired as to whether I lived nearby. They wanted me to model several clothes for them on their social media, but I had to drive 50 minutes to Miami from my house. Even though I was unable to accept the offer, this experience marked a significant turning point in my life and motivated me to continue pursuing my passion for modeling.
After returning home to Boca, I was fortunate to meet someone at school who shared a passion for photography. With her camera in hand, we embarked on a journey of capturing amazing pictures. Our collaboration soon opened up new doors for me, and I started exploring the world of modeling. One day, my friend surprised me by revealing that she had submitted one of our pictures to VogueItalia, and it had been chosen to feature in one of their magazines. This was an incredible moment, and it fueled my desire to pursue modeling even further.
Unfortunately, the pandemic hit, and like many others, I found myself stuck at home for what felt like an eternity. To keep myself occupied, I turned to TikTok, where I would create and post videos on a daily basis. With each passing day, I would come up with new ideas and get more and more creative, and my videos started to gain traction, going viral. Among these videos was one that I created with my younger sister, which became particularly memorable. I’ll never forget the feeling of shock and amazement as my sister showed me that it had gained hundreds of thousands of views in a short period of time.
During the pandemic, I moved to Miami and felt so sad for having to leave my friends behind once again. Long story short, my mom and I called BellaQuinces&Photography to let them know we were now a lot closer to them. They instantly invited us over and I felt like this was going to impact my life in such an amusing way. Entering the store, I was greeted by the store’s manager and was explained what they wanted me to do for the store. They were very focused on showcasing these dresses on their Instagram and wanted me to model in them. I made a few videos that day and at the very end, they told me they wanted me to visit the store more to continue making these videos.
After appearing at BellaQuince&Photography for about a week, I was introduced to the store owners. We had a conversation about the store’s objectives and future plans. I shared my thoughts on how to achieve their social media goals and was given permission to implement a plan I had developed to increase the store’s social media presence. As a result of my creative ideas, the videos I created began to gain millions of views.
My time at BellaQuinces&Photography has been incredibly fulfilling. As a content creator and social media manager, I have acquired invaluable knowledge and experience over the past three years. I’m excited to continue growing and learning alongside the company. My passion for this industry stems from the ability to connect with diverse communities through social networks. As a result of managing the photography company’s social media accounts, I have developed the skills to engage with our audience and influence their actions. The role is both rewarding and meaningful, and I am eager to advance my career as a Marketing Manager through further study.
The profession of Marketing to me, is a career for people who have a lot of vocation. It is a career in which you can impact people all over the world through a screen. This also goes hand in hand with being a queen. A queen must be integral in the sense of the word, she also has to have a human heart…and with what I value, the messages I give to my audience, and the way I express myself…I learned that even through a screen I can touch hearts and that’s what I do.
Since I was a child, I admired the women representing their country in beauty pageants with the dream of one day participating myself. And I truly believe that there’s a person that life gives you, who gives you that impulse to achieve those dreams. I am grateful every day that person is my mom. As soon as she found out about the Miss Cuba Teen beauty pageant, she gave me 100% support and told me that if I really wanted to do it, I would achieve it. Her support and words of motivation were what made me give my all to Miss Cuba Teen, and I am grateful every day for winning this incredible title of Miss Cuba Teen 2022.
Since being crowned, my life has taken an incredible turn! I now have the responsibility and honor of representing my country with pride. I have the opportunity to show what it truly means to be a Cuban at heart wherever I go, showcasing the beauty, culture, and traditions that define us as individuals and as a nation on an international platform.
Modeling is an exhilarating experience for me, especially when I walk the runway at shows and events. It’s a perfect blend of feeling both free and concentrated at the same time, which makes it even more enjoyable. One of my ultimate favorite dress designers is Portia&Scarlett. Being part of their runway shows in Atlanta has always been a dream of mine, ever since I gained knowledge about the dress industry while working with BellaQuinces. I feel incredibly fortunate to have already modeled for their high-end designs twice in Atlanta, Georgia. The experience was so incredible, and I hope to continue being a part of their shows in the future.
In conclusion, at the age of 19, I feel like I have already accomplished so much, and I’m excited to continue on this path. From discovering my passion for modeling at just seven years old to winning the title of Miss Cuba Teen 2022, my journey has been full of ups and downs. But through it all, I have learned that hard work, dedication, and the support of loved ones can lead to achieving your dreams.
As a marketing manager and content creator, I have learned to connect with diverse communities through social media and to touch people’s hearts even through a screen. I am honored to represent my country and am eager to see what new experiences and opportunities lie ahead. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way, and I am excited about what the future holds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While pursuing my goals and dreams, I have encountered many obstacles and challenges along the way. One of the biggest issues that I faced, which is also prevalent among young women in my generation, is the issue of expectations. In this day and age, social media has intensified the pressure to present a perfect image, which is not always attainable.
As we are constantly exposed to images of bodies that are photoshopped and lives that are filtered, it can be challenging to maintain a healthy perspective and positive self-image. The pressure to conform to these standards can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety, which can affect our mental health and well-being.
Despite the challenges, I have learned to navigate these issues by focusing on my personal growth and development, rather than trying to fit into someone else’s mold. I have also surrounded myself with positive role models and supportive friends and family, who have helped me stay grounded and motivated.
