Rising Stars: Meet Amber Lubie of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Lubie

Hi Amber, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Amber Lubie and I am a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I grew up in Miami raised by two South African parents. I knew I wanted to be a nurse since the age of 15. I graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Nursing in 2020 and immediately entered the nursing workforce during the COVID 19 pandemic. I worked on a Critical Care Respiratory floor for 3.5 years. While I loved being a nurse, I always knew my end goal was to become a Nurse Practitioner, so I returned to school at the University of Miami where I graduated with my Maters of Science in Nurse in 2023.

As a young girl I have always loved all things girly, so as a Nurse Practitioner I wanted to take my experience and knowledge that I learned from being an inpatient bedside nurse to another area of nursing, Aesthetics. Now as a Nurse Practitioner for almost 9 months I am working as an injector where I love making people feel like the best version of themselves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nursing school and nurse practitioner school had many struggles – the rigorous academic courses along with the grueling hours of studying, and the clinical rotations which test both your mind and body being on your feet for 12 + hours a day.

Similarly, being a nurse is both mentally and physically challenging for the same physical reason. Mentally, working as a new baby nurse in critical care during the pandemic was something school could not prepare one for. From taking care of the dying to consoling the family members of said patients was character building. Caring deeply for the patients you take care of is amazing in both a good and bad way, because the job doesn’t leave you when you go home at night. But that being said working as a bed side nurse was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made and some of my best friends are nurses I met there.

Working as a nurse practitioner has had its own challenges as I am the provider making more independent decisions regarding a patient’s care, so the responsibility is much greater. However I have loved working in aesthetics, the clean and cheerful environment is great to be in.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a Nurse Practitioner working in aesthetics, I perform injectables including neurotoxins and dermal fillers. I also help patients on their skin care and weight loss journeys, as well as several devices we have here including our Glacial RX cryotherapy machine, our ultrasound for guided imaging, and a micro needling pen.

I am most proud of the journey it took to earn my credentials and being in a field that makes me happy.

What sets me apart from other injectors is my crossover of knowledge from being a bedside nurse with my aesthetics knowledge. I focus on a healthy balance of natural beauty with subtle enhancements.

How do you think about happiness?
Aside from work, things that make me happy are traveling, going on long walks with my dog, reading a good thriller book, and relaxing by the pool (wearing tons of sunscreen and a hat of course ;)).
