Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Porcelain.
Alyssa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After graduating college early in 2019 and starting a miserable corporate marketing job, I decided to get my MBA and start my own business. I began doing graphic and web design, but photography had always been my passion. As I dipped my toe into branding photography, I was invited to photograph families and fell in love with it. I am now a mom to a 2 year old boy with another on the way. I am almost 6 years into a successful business that allows me to build relationships and friendships with my community, while raising my sons.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business from the ground up has been a difficult road financially. I have had to push myself out of my comfort zone dramatically by taking on a lot of different work in the beginning, and learning the skillsets needed along the way. Opening myself up to any and all business in the beginning has allowed me to build a foundation for myself and hone in on what I truly love: family photography and capturing women through their motherhood journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I focus on maternity, newborn, and family photography. While I do photograph other things such as couples and events, this is where I focus the majority of my efforts. I have developed my brand around connection. A client is not just a client, they are a friend that is able to share all of their achievements and struggles with me. I have built so many incredible connections through this business that extend beyond a simple photo session. I get to celebrate babies as they enter the world, children as they celebrate another year around the sun, and women who are finding their identity after becoming a mother. I believe what sets me apart is my genuine care for those I meet. I always come with an open ear, open mind, and open heart.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most is making my clients feel comfortable! I want them to let loose and have a good time. I want them to let the kids run wild and get messy. I want them to be able to text me with questions and updates and funny internet memes when they run across them. I want to be a friend to whoever needs it.
