Rising Stars: Meet Alex Ioannou

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Ioannou.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a veteran of hair! Started at Vidal Sassoon in London, England.

Moved to Chicago in 1986.

Opened TRIO Salon x3 and merged with another salon right before Covid-19. Moved to Key Largo 2 years ago and managing Ooh La La Salon & Wellness center. My resume is on my website www.alexhaircoach.com.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Never a smooth road! One learns from the bumps and bruises. Sacrifices, missing family, and starving artists syndrome all are part of the journey’s challenges. Learning and re-learning are tantamount to this industry and ensuring a love of people!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Stylist – educator – coach are my three main roles now.

1: As a stylist, I continue to hone my skills. I am a master cutter and learned from the best. Philosophy is to create a “shape that can be styled in many ways.”

2: As an educator, I create and set up training programs for salons, individuals, and for product manufacturers. I demonstrate and conduct hands-on classes so people can hone their skills. Classes consist not just practical, they are filled with team building, retail, social media, and individual growth.

3: As a coach, I work with salon owners and individual stylists to create a game plan and career path.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Empathy, patience, and being prepared. One never knows what’s coming, so be prepared and ready for anything. Use the downtime to learn and get better at what you need to. Don’t waste that time, it’s never coming back!
