Rebecca Gosik of Fort Lauderdale on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rebecca Gosik. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would absolutely hire me. As an entrepreneur, even when working for someone else’s business I always think about what the best business move is when im forced to make decisions. I consider what is best for the business versus what is best for me since if the business thrives, then it helps the employees thrive. I put myself in that business owner’s shoes and do my best as a representative of that business because that’s exactly what I expect from my own employees.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Rebecca Gosik, often referred to as Becci. I am the founder of Barstool Social®, a happy hour and event discovery app currently focused on the Fort Lauderdale area. The idea came from a simple truth: there’s always something going on around town whether it’s a great brunch, a live band, a ladies night, or a killer happy hour but people often don’t know where to find it. So I created Barstool Social to solve that.
I’m passionate about creating something that brings community together, helps businesses thrive, and makes going out easier and more affordable. We’ve started in Fort Lauderdale, but the goal is to take this city-by-city and build a nationwide network that helps connect everyone to the local hospitality scene locally or while traveling.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Honestly the relationship with my ex husband. I think even more so the process of ending that marriage has helped shape how I see myself since it wasn’t until then that I even lived alone for the first time ever. That relationship went from age 21-31 for me which is a very pivotal point in someone’s life. It was the relationship that helped me understand exactly what I want in life, showed me what I needed to work on, what I am willing to negotiate on, and challenged me in so many ways. Through that relationship and the ending of it, I have grown so much mentally & spiritually.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to not dwell on things you cannot change and not to try to change things that are out of your control. The universe has a plan and you must trust the journey. Stress, worry and overthinking just leads to anxiety plus time and energy wasted.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and no. I say that only because my public self gets alot of compliments that I have great energy and I am always happy. Yet, at home I am frequently exhausted and definitely have my unhappy times like anyone else. But I am always an open book and value being honest and genuine so I don’t fake who I am. I love the person I have become so you get what you get regardless of your perception of me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I am currently working on building my Barstool Social® business which will take time to pay off. A startup in the tech space takes a while to get into the profit arena thanks to high development costs in the beginning while still proving yourself to the market and mapping out the best business plan forward. And even so, it’s a gamble if it will even pay off but that’s the life of an entrepreneur.
