Today we’d like to introduce you to Yovana Alvarez.
Hi Yovana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Pinar Del Rio , Cuba , and later moved to Havana , where I studied Art History.
My love for art and design began very early in my life . In Cuba , my mother and I were involved in the world of Antiques , buying , collecting, and selling beautiful pieces that had belonged to families for generations.
That the experience gave me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, history, proportion, and the beauty behind a well -designed object.
After coming to the United States , my journey took a different direction. I met my husband, Ivan , an engineer who had extensive experience working with acrylic and had owned an acrylic company in the 1980s . I had also studied interior design, and over time I became increasingly drawn to modern , contemporary, and minimalist design .
We realized that his technical and engineering knowledge and my background in art and design complemented each other perfectly.
That combination became the foundation of Acrylic Art Designers by Yovana .
We started creating custom acrylic furniture and decorative pieces , including tables , art pieces , bars , lighting and other unique designs. From the beginning, our goal was never mass production. We wanted to create pieces that were distinctive, beautifully made , and designed specifically for the spaces and clients they were created for .
Eventually, our work led us into the world of pianos .
We first began working with acoustic pianos , creating custom acrylic components that transformed the traditional instruments visually while preserving its original body and mechanisms. One of the most important chapters in our journey has been our work with acrylic pianos . For many years , we collaborated with Euro Pianos Naples , as well as-established family pianos company .
They provided the acoustic pianos , and we handcrafted the acrylic components that transformed them into extraordinary contemporary instruments.
They called this concept the “ Air Piano “ because the transparency of the Acrylic created the illusion that the piano was almost floating . That work led some very special moments for us .
One of the acrylic pianos we created for Euro Pianos Naples was later sold by the company to Kylie Jenner -something that made us incredibly proud to see .
Later , Ivan and I developed our own Acrylic Digital Piano Shell , a design created entirely by us .
It has the presence and proportions of a baby grand piano but is designed to accommodate a digital keyboard, which can be customized the client’s specific instrument.
Made with premium acrylic in the USA, it represents everything our company has became a combination of art , engineering, craftsmanship, innovation, and our passion for creating something truly different.
Looking back , it is interesting to see how my journey envolved- from studying Art History and collecting antiques in Cuba to designing contemporary pieces in acrylic today . The styles may be different, but the connection has always been the same : my love for art , beautiful objects, and design .
Seeing our own Acrylic Digital Baby Grand Piano featured at an Oscars event in 2025 was an unforgettable moment. To see something that began as an idea between Ivan and me , created in our own workshop , reach a setting like that was incredible meaningful.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road . Building a business over the years , has required a lot of hard work, patience, perseverance, and sacrifice.
Working with acrylic is very specialized, and many of the pieces we create are completely custom , so every project brings its own challenges and requires precision, creativity, and attention to detail.
Like many small businesses, we have also experienced difficult economic times and moments of uncertainty. But we have always continued moving forward, learning, adapting, and finding new ways to create and innovate..
One of the things I am most proud of is that , despite the challenges, we have never compromised the quality of our work. My husband and I have dedicated ourselves to this business and to building a reputation based on craftsmanship, trust , and personal service . Every challenge has helped us grow stronger and has pushed us to create pieces that are increasingly unique, including our own acrylic digital baby grand piano .
Looking back , I believe the difficult moments have made the accomplishment even more meaningful.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Acrylic Art Designers, Inc. is a family-owned company specializing in the design and fabrication of high-end custom acrylic furniture and unique architectural and decorative pieces .
With more than 30 years of experience working with acrylic , we have developed a deep understanding of a material that is as beautiful as it is technically demanding.
What truly sets us apart is that we are not simply selling acrylic furniture – we create it . Our pieces are designed by us and handcrafted by our team in our own workshop , where an idea can begin as a simple sketch or concept and ultimately become a one – of – a – kind piece .
Our work ranges from custom tables , consoles , pedestals , seating, displays and specialty pieces to highly personalized projects for interior designers, luxury residences, hotels, yachts and commercial spaces .
We love taking on projects that require us to think differently and find solutions that may not already exist.
One of the creations we are especially proud of is our Acrylic Digital Baby Grand Piano , an original design that combines the elegance and precense of a traditional grand piano with the clean , contemporary beauty of acrylic and modern digital technology.
What defines our brand is not mass production.
It is craftsmanship, care, precision and personalization. Every project receives individual attention, and detail matters to us . After all these years , one of the greatest compliments we can receive is when someone looks at one of our pieces and immediately recognizes that it is something special.
At Acrylic Art Designers, we don’t simply work with acrylic- we transform ideas into pieces that are meant to be remembered.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
For me , taking risks has always been part of creating. When you specialize in custom work, clients often come to you with an idea you have never executed before. In that moment, you have two choices: says, “ I don’t know how to do that “, or have the courage to think, “ I may not know exactly how I’m going to do it yet , but I will find a way “ . That second choice has defined much of my career.
Some of our best work began exactly that way with an idea that was difficult, different, or even seemed impossible.
I have taken on projects without having every answer from the beginning, trusting my experience, my creativity, and the ability of our team to find a solution.
Of course , over the years I have learned that taking risks does not mean acting without thinking. To me , it means believing in an idea enough to invest the time , work, and resources necessary to bring it to life, even when there is no guarantee that it will succeed.
I believe many of the things I am most proud of today exist because, at some point, I had the courage to say , “ Yes , we can do it “, before knowing exactly how .
Sometimes the greatest risks is not trying and failing- it is never trying at all and always wondering what might have been possible.
