Today we’d like to introduce you to Wrendly Mesidor.
Hi Wrendly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was raised in North Miami Beach, and this community has shaped who I am. From a young age, I learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and giving back to others. Those values have guided me throughout my life and continue to inspire my commitment to public service.
I earned my Associate’s degree from Broward College, my Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication, and my Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Florida International University. During my time at FIU, I served in student government and held several leadership positions that strengthened my passion for serving others.
After graduation, I worked in higher education and public service before answering my calling to become a teacher. Since 2024, I have served as a classroom teacher, teaching third-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies during the 2024–2025, 2025–2026, and 2026–2027 school years. Beginning this school year, I will also teach fifth-grade Math, Science, and Social Studies. These experiences have allowed me to work closely with students and families while gaining firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing education.
Beyond the classroom, I have served on advisory boards in North Miami Beach and remained actively involved in community service. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that the best decisions are made by listening, collaborating, and putting students first.
I’m running for the Miami-Dade County School Board because I want to bring the perspective of a current classroom teacher to the board. I understand the realities educators face every day, and I am committed to supporting teachers, strengthening partnerships with parents, improving student achievement, and ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education.
From the Classroom to the School Board isn’t just my campaign slogan—it’s the path that has prepared me to serve our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like many people, I’ve faced setbacks and challenges that have shaped who I am. Balancing graduate school, work, community service, and eventually becoming a classroom teacher required discipline, sacrifice, and perseverance.
Transitioning into education was one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made, but it also came with a steep learning curve. Teaching requires long hours, constant preparation, and a commitment to meeting the unique needs of every student. Those experiences have strengthened my problem-solving skills, resilience, and appreciation for the work educators do every day.
Running for School Board has also brought its own challenges. Campaigning while continuing to teach full-time means balancing the responsibilities of serving my students with meeting voters across the community. It’s not easy, but I believe that leadership is about showing up, working hard, and staying committed even when the path is difficult.
Every challenge I’ve faced has reinforced my belief that perseverance, service, and a focus on helping others can make a meaningful difference. Those experiences are exactly what have prepared me to serve the students, families, and educators of Miami-Dade County.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an educator, community leader, and advocate for student success. My career has focused on education, leadership, and public service, with a passion for helping students reach their full potential and strengthening the communities I serve.
Since becoming a classroom teacher in 2024, I have taught third-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies, and I will be teaching fifth-grade Math, Science, and Social Studies for the 2026–2027 school year. Working directly with students every day has given me firsthand insight into the opportunities and challenges facing education. It has reinforced my belief that strong schools are built through collaboration among teachers, parents, administrators, and the community.
Beyond the classroom, I have served in leadership roles in higher education, student government, and local government advisory boards. These experiences have allowed me to bring people together, solve problems, and advocate for policies that strengthen education and improve our community.
What I am most proud of is the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students while continuing to serve my community. Whether I’m teaching in the classroom, volunteering, or meeting with residents throughout Miami-Dade County, my goal is always the same: to help others succeed.
What sets me apart is that I bring the perspective of a current classroom teacher to public service. I understand the realities educators and students face because I experience them every day. I believe in listening, working collaboratively, and making decisions based on what is in the best interest of students, families, and our community.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next five to ten years, I believe education will continue to evolve as technology, workforce demands, and student needs change. Artificial intelligence, digital learning tools, and personalized instruction will become increasingly important, but technology should enhance great teaching, not replace it. We must ensure educators receive the training and resources they need to use these tools effectively.
I also believe there will be a greater emphasis on improving literacy and math achievement, expanding career and technical education, and preparing students with the critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills needed for an ever-changing workforce.
At the same time, recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers will remain one of the biggest challenges facing education. Investing in educators through competitive compensation, professional development, and supportive working conditions will be essential to student success.
Looking ahead, I believe the most successful school systems will be those that embrace innovation while maintaining a strong focus on the fundamentals of education: reading, writing, mathematics, science, civic responsibility, and meaningful partnerships with parents and the community.
