Meet Will Williams of 3 Guys Locksmith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Williams.

Hi Will, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born here in Miami and lived in several different neighborhoods around Kendall, Pinecrest, and Coral Gables, before moving down with my family to the Redlands when I was 21. I started out in the real estate business when I was 18 years old in property management before moving into sales, both commercial and residential. After saving some money from a few commissions, I realized the inconsistent income of the real estate sales business were not what I wanted for a full time profession, especially because I wanted to start using my income to acquire loans for rental properties. My mom and I decided I should look for a business to purchase. After looking at two other businesses, we decided on the locksmith business in October of 2020 because I enjoyed working on my own cars and with my hands growing up and the previous owners seemed trustworthy. I had no locksmith experience prior to buying the business and I wrote into the purchase contract for the previous owners to train me for 3 months. I knew it would not be enough time to learn everything or even scratch the surface, but I was determined to learn quickly (and terrified of failure). The first year and a half were extremely difficult, but I’ve learned a ton and made friends and connections that have helped me maintain a stable business with consistent customers. Over time, I’ve been able to start buying higher quality parts to help reduce call backs for the same issues and maintain a good reputation in the community and with my customers. I take a ton of pride in what I do and interacting with customers and being able to go above and beyond for them makes the long hours worth it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The initial challenge with the business was learning how to be a locksmith. The pressure to learn quickly was not easy, but I was able to learn and retain everything necessary and learn from my mistakes. The main challenge I face now (like any business in Miami-Dade) is competition. There may be someone cheaper, but I take my warranties and quality of products/services very seriously. I want to create a culture that revolves around quality more than anything else and I think I’ve managed to do just over the last 5 years.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about 3 Guys Locksmith?
I own 3 Guys Locksmith, which is a locksmith company based in Homestead, FL. We specialize in car, house, and business keys and locks. We make keys from scratch, change/rekey locks, assist with evictions, program car keys, and install different locking systems.
What sets my business apart from others is my attention to detail and quality of service. I’ve made it my mission to raise the quality of the keys and parts I provide. It makes me happy to know when I’m finished with a job, I can sleep well at night knowing the repair or key I provided to a customer is going to last.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was when I was 7 years old and my dad bought me a dirt bike for Christmas. My mom was scared for me to ride one and clearly did not know my dad was going to get one for me. I remember them arguing Christmas day and him saying, “well, Santa bought it for him. It wasn’t me!” I’m very thankful for Santa, because it started the love I have for dirt bikes and anything with an internal combustion motor.
