Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Thomas.
Hi Will, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a yoga teacher and studio owner for many years, but at 47, I injured myself in a yoga pose that forced me to rethink how the body heals.
In the process, I developed a simple technique that not only repaired my injury, but also relieved the everyday aches and stiffness I thought were just part of getting older.
Today, at 55, I feel stronger, more flexible, and completely pain-free—thanks to the 35-minute method I now teach, called Somatic Relief Yoga.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I like to say it took me five minutes to feel the benefits of this technique—but five years to learn how to teach it. That’s because Somatic Relief Yoga is about tuning into the sensations in your muscles—tightness, weakness, or holding patterns—that we usually ignore or avoid, especially when following along in a typical exercise class. My challenge as a teacher has been learning how to guide people toward their own flexibility, strength, and healing by helping them listen to their bodies—instead of just telling their bodies what to do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I help people reduce pain, improve mobility, and feel better in their bodies—so they can get back to living their lives without investing hours each day. I lead an online community that includes live group and 1:1 Zoom sessions, along with recorded classes, so members can practice this healing technique anytime, anywhere, on a schedule that fits their life. I also lead in-person workshops for organizations and groups, including the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
What I’m most grateful for—even after 10,000+ hours of teaching and practice—is that this technique demands a Beginner’s Mind every single time. It’s a structured method that keeps me open to discovery, learning something new each day, and meeting the present moment as it is.
What are your plans for the future?
This summer, I successfully tested a new workshop to help beginners experience the benefits of the method right away. I’ll be presenting it to corporate clients as well as putting everything into a book, coming soon!
