Meet Stacey J Nelson, Ph.D. of Tweedle Pet Products in Delray Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Stacey J Nelson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Nelson. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a Licensed Psychotherapist and Motivational Consultant in Boca Raton, FL, I listened to countless stories of grief and loss from patients and clients who lost their beloved pets in the “Toxic Pet Food Recall”, beginning in 2008. Unfortunately, many of these same people spent thousands of dollars in Veterinary Bills to save their pets, but some did not survive. I started reading more and more labels on pet products, and in particular, noticed dangerous ingredients aka “Toxic or poisonous”, I was saddened to learn that many pet food companies were not as committed to adding quality “human grade” ingredients, and I said I’m going to do something about this. I became a columnist for an online lifestyle magazine JAQUO and for the former Palm Beach Link writing articles about Pets and People wanting to share what I discovered about “The Importance of Reading Labels”, “The Dangers of Additives and Preservatives”, “The Humanization of Pets” and “Pets and Food Allergies”.

It was at the Obedience Training Club of Palm Beach County where Miss Tweedle was in training, that I would stuff the pockets of my overalls each week with my dog treats I prepared, used as “training rewards”, Her classmates continually sniffed at my overalls wanting what I had in my pockets each week. I then, started
selling at local Green Markets, and within one year I was in Whole Foods Markets Florida Region. Tweedle Pet Products were in Eleven Whole Foods Markets for six or seven years, but I discovered they were not rotating
dates properly, and not ordering in a timely manner. I then removed our products, and developed an online store at www.tweedlepetproducts.com and on Amazon.com.

During this time period, I discovered my yellow Labrador Retriever “Miss Tweedle” aka Surry’s Talk Of The Town is Tweedle, had skin and food allergies, in addition to her being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect called “Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia”. She is the inspiration for the development of Tweedle Pet Products LLC and my company is named after her. In 2009, I started donating a portion of the proceeds of all our sales to a Research Project at The University of Pennsylvania, about The Genetic causes of Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia in Labrador Retrievers by Dr Meg Sleeper Veterinary Cardiologist, and Dr Paula Henthorn Geneticist. The goal was to find the gene causing this congenital defect, and to produce a diagnostic test for TVD, similar to the Optigen Eye Test.

Miss Tweedle and her relatives participated in this important research, and gave many vials of blood to help their research project.Unfortunately, the research stopped, before the gene causing TVD was discovered and hope the research to find the gene will continue at some point in the near future. I talked to the CEO of the AKC Canine Health Foundation just last week and they received several grant proposals and donations to restart this important research in the near future.

Tweedle Pet Products are formulated for dogs, cats, and exotic birds, sensitive to common food allergies.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One challenge is the issue of proper distribution in the right market place for a small independent company like Tweedle Pet Products LLC – Natural and Organic – far DISTRIBUTOR who is committed to producing the best quality I am able to create, to offer competitive pricing and availability.

Being able to offer fair pricing for our products and for wholesale, resale purpose and retail, direct to the consumer.

We do not have the cash flow to expand the way customers have requested and to fulfill a dream of mine

Tweedle Pet Products LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think I covered this in my first description. Enjoying the journey of sharing my interest of quality healthy pet products, not just what goes into the bank, although, I do need to earn enough money to continue producing quality products. Natural and organic ingredients are expensive and trust I will continue to be able to afford to bu these type of ingredients

I wish I had an investor or two for a successful crowdfunding campaign, as I would love to expand and also have a little brick and mortar store, to meet and greet all my customers, like an extended family.
