Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Mazorra.
Zoe, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my business when I was 15 hand making hair bows and jewelry. I didn’t have a website, I just posted photos on Instagram of my creations and people in my high school would buy them from me. It began to grow more and more over time. I introduced a swimsuit to the collection of items and it blew up. Ever since then, I knew the swimsuits would be my best seller and it took off from there. I made a website finally and was able to sell to people all over the state, which turned into the country, and now the world.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been so bad. Sure some issues here and there but nothing I couldn’t overcome. My advice to others is to not pay attention to the “competition” or nay-Sayers. People who try to do the same as you or already existing companies that are similar to you will try anything to bring you down. No matter how nice they try to come off as or supportive they try to act. As far as everyone else, everyone will always have something negative to say. You can never please everybody. So, don’t beat yourself up every time someone says something negative about you. It’s not worth your time. Just keep moving forward.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I sell swimsuits primarily, that is what I am most known for. I am most proud of my variety of swimsuits. Every time someone comes into my store, I ask them what they’re interested in and I’m able to pull that out for them since I have such a huge variety. I think what sets me apart from others is my knowledge of my swimsuits. I am a one-woman show, I run everything by myself, so I know exactly how each and every swimsuit fits. I use this knowledge to help others out with sizing and fit. My customers know that if they ever need help with sizing, they could always message me and I’m here to help with recommendations.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Make sure whatever you’re doing, you love it. It’ll make everything else so worth it.
