Meet Trailblazer Sessy Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sessy Hernandez.

Sessy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Needless to say, I am definitely the wild child in my family. I come from a background of the Mexican heritage, both my mother and father were born in Matamoros, Mexico. I, however, was born in Boynton Beach, Florida.

When I was about ten years old my family moved to Dallas, Texas. As a kid growing up in Dallas, Texas, I discovered my first love; Music.

When I was about 14 years old I had a dream of becoming a singer. That was when my dad and I decided, we would start up a youtube blog. I was traveling for auditions in Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, etc., the list goes on and on. Throughout my high school years, I attended the School of Rock in Southlake Texas, I was doing it all. My love for music started to die down once I was getting ready to graduate.

Fall 2014, I was a freshman at the University of Arkansas, it was there where I discovered my love for journalism. I was the main anchor for my student-run news station all throughout my college years.

My dream was to always come back to the lovely sunshine state, and so I did. The summer of 2017, I packed up my things and moved to Coconut Creek, Florida. My first job employed as a receptionist at D.O.G Fort Lauderdale was a blast. I worked there for about eight months. One day, I came across an add for an email coordinator position in a small boutique, located at the Galleria, Fort Lauderdale. I took my chance and took the opportunity. It was there where I found my love for social media marketing.

I was creating online content calendars for all their online stores. In the beginning, I handled eight Instagram accounts in which grew up to ten a couple of months later. I had the chance to attend both Miami and New York fashion shows, my career was finally coming together, I have worked for people in fashion, meat, and the canine industry. I love it all!

As my love for marketing grows, my thirst for knowledge and progression grows along with it. I work hard for everything I do. I am young and motivated, so why sleep?

I am currently a partner, running an online store with my fashion lover mother, as well as a Social Media Manager, and Marketing Assistant.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish everything in life came smooth, but of course like everyone else I had some struggles along the way!

Many companies did not want to hire me due to my lack of “work experience!” Agencies would love that I studied journalism and had experience in social media marketing, but would end up going with another candidate, due to the fact that I had no prior work history of working with any agencies before. However, I did not let that phase me, I continued to apply anywhere and everywhere.

Never give up and never take no for an answer! It might seem like EVERYONE is denying you, but there will be that one opportunity waiting for you on the other side.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am currently a partner, running an online store called South City Style, selling modern-day suburban/city looks, at an affordable price! I manage varies social media platforms for two companies. I am also a marketing assistant for a cute Floridan boutique called Apricot Lane South Florida.

I specialize in social media marketing, content creation, and fashion. My peers would say I am an extrovert who loves meeting new people.

I am most proud of always making sure to keep to an open mind. People don’t only see the product you sell but how you sell it! I am not your typical fashion lover, I love working in the background and working in the spotlight, it doesn’t matter what role I play, I love what I do and make sure it shows.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
If you are someone just starting out in your career, keep in mind, if you lack experience in anything, take the time to learn it, grasp it, and own it.
