Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Alvarez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sabrina. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I’ve decided to take modeling into my future and make it my purpose in life. Let’s go back to how it first started. When I was around ten years of age, I was bullied physically and mentally. This caused me to be super insecure about myself. Hearing others call me names such as “anorexic, ugly, queer” etc. made me feel as if I wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place. Outcasted. I never wore shorts, and I was always covered in a large hoodie. Yet after being traumatized in my childhood, I’ve had extremely special people pass by in my lifetime. These special people come and go yet others plan to live my whole life with me. Those people taught me there is no such thing as a perfect body, there’s no such thing as the prettiest girl in the world, and there’s no such thing as being perfect, and that is what makes every single human being unique and who they are. It was extremely rough to go from anti-social and shy to being a very outgoing and confident model. My family was helping me with everything in their power and had introduced me to modeling. The idea of sponsoring brands and walking down a runway had transformed me completely. Not only do I love modeling for the amazing feeling of adrenaline you get on the runway but every fashion show I attend I always meet new people. Meeting new people and knowing their stories makes me feel as if there are others out there who have had worse or are trying to accomplish the same dreams as I am. It makes you work together with those people and climb your way towards the top. This is what keeps me going and has developed into a passion of mine.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a model is not easy. There will be times where friends can possibly turn against you… when jealousy and envy come your way. In my experience, I’ve lost friends many I wish I hadn’t. Modeling had become a competition for them to feel as if they’re the best model there is. Yet little did they know models come in unique personalities, sizes, and shapes. It will not be a smooth road because there will be times that you feel as if you aren’t good enough. There will be times you start feeling insecure about yourself. But DONT! Being insecure will only cage yourself in and stop you from being proud and confident of yourself. For those models who are just starting don’t ever let anything or anyone bring you down. Because your one in a million because which means there’s only one person in this whole world who defines YOU.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I work as a model sponsoring designers/brands. I’m known for the many shows I’ve participated in, my social media and for being an ambassador for WalkFashionShow. But most importantly I’m known for helping out other models and relationships I’ve created with people.
What I’m most proud of is my huge change that I’ve developed over time from being very shy and quiet to a confident and powerful woman. In my opinion, what sets me apart from others are my goals and purpose. Everyone has a different purpose for modeling, and many others have different goals. Yes, there are models who share common goals, but everyone has their own meaning to it. Everyone does it for their own reason. Not to follow others but to accomplish THEIR dreams.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I use an app called “Photoshop.” I don’t photoshop photography but more like digital art. I’ve been a traditional artist for six years and just started getting into virtual art. Art helps me stay stress-free and spreads my imagination and creativity onto paper so that way I’m able to show others what goes on in my head. Being an artist has opened my eyes and shown me how the world is perfectly artistic. The way everything on Earth fits so well together from shapes to the variation of vibrant colors we see every day. First I spill all of my imagination and creativity onto paper then transferring it into PhotoShop. Why don’t I just leave it on paper? The world is changing, and technology is developing. Creating digital art and posting it on social media will seek out more people and new artists to collaborate with.
