Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Anderson.
Amanda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a young adult, I dreamt of having my own business but never knew how to start or what the business would even be for! To be quite frank, I hardly even knew what my passion was or what I was even skilled at. Before the start of it all, I was working a full-time job in a pharmacy to help put myself through school, which I was also doing full-time. Growing up, I knew I had to go to school to get a degree but what they never told us was how to still make sure what you’re going to school for will fulfill you!
I remember feeling so empty and lost because I didn’t know what drove me, what motivated me, what made me want to get up in the morning. I’m a woman of faith and have always believed in putting God first. One day, I decided I was actually going to live up to what I believed and actually do so. So, I made a vow with God and promised that if he gave me a business, I would give it back to Him for Him to prosper it.
So, I started a social media internship in my senior year of college for a small business that consisted of filming/editing videos, doing photography and creating graphics. After the end of the internship, my manager offered to pay me monthly to still run the social media for her business. Shortly after, her husband, as well, hired me to run his social media! This brought me to the realization that what I was offering was an actual service and not a favor. It was something that was in high demand, even if people didn’t realize they needed it. I never imagined it would lead to the start of my business! I developed such a passion for media that I could not see ever pursuing a career outside of it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning stages of my business, I received all sorts of backlash of doubt and confusion. Because I quit my job and made this my full-time, it seemed as if I was making a foolish financial move. I quickly realized people fear the unknown and you won’t always receive the feedback you think you would, especially from the people closest to you. I started this business with no money, hardly any equipment but LOTS of faith.
Things take time to blossom and if you’re not seeing the fruits immediately, IT’S OKAY! Just keep sowing, planting and cultivating. The fruits WILL come if you’re being led the right way. There’s beauty in the struggle and process means transformation.
One day, you will look back and see why your process was needed.
Please tell us about Minii Media – what should we know?
I am a content creator for small businesses and brands. I help people create engaging and trendy media content including videos, photos, and graphics, that will help their business to gain traffic and to flourish. My goal is to bring them to life!
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Learn as much as you can from other people who are in the same niche as you. One thing that also helped me tremendously was other YouTubers who have experience in my niche. I can honestly say much of what I know is from befriending YouTube!
